fishing for bass

hello, can anyone help me, I haven't fished for bass before and wondering what time of year you can get them and where? does anyone no any good spots / places?

what's the best bait and can you catch them from the shore? I am form Newcastle, can travel but not too far.

cheers Darren :D

Summer is the best time mate any sandy beach you have a chance as for marks i doubt you will get much help there matey as there not easy come by and lads put alot of time and effort in there bass marks. you can spin for them or bait fish for them some say crab for bass some say rag.

I've seen people catch bass on Horden beach. Cast about 40 yards out behind last breaker, and I've read they like to feed with a little bit surf going. Never caught one myself though.

Caught my first (and only although I don't fish that much) Bass last summer off Seaham Hall beach in the dark on bait, fishing over the last breaker as described.

Saw one of about 4 lb caught at Hendon one night last winter. Not many there though, probably not worth targeting them there unless you have plenty of time on your hands ! SS big beach is probably the best shot but gets netted out regularly and is full of kids just now.

If you have a scroll through the lure section there is a few links to get you started mate.

Found them quite helpful regarding tackle & techniques but you will still have to put the hours in to find them on the N/E coast.

Good luck.

Try cresswell beach m8 just between the beach and the carrs the tide rips through there just on the left bottom corner have seen afew biggies taken there over the years

When I first started chasing them on bait just used to go out set up for flatys , bait used was mainly rag worm crab and sandeels , if your fishing beechs look for sand bars and galleys and fish them on a flooding tide . Found the beechs on our coast fish better with a light south easterly running . Don't cast to far a lot of the time there in close the third breaker can often be to far. The autum months are poberly the most productive months for using bait, but I was still picking the odd ones up through January and feb this year , hope this helps , tight lines

I remember my 1st bass about 20 years ago , it was off horden beach near the **** pipe about 2am on a full moon , just about low water , rod was knocking like mad , struck into it and wham !!! the next 5 minutes or so was like reeling a kite in, my line was moving left to right out at sea 30 yards one way then the other... got it in and it was around the 3lb mark , never even knew what it was till I got home and searched online.... marvellous fighting fish , a lot more power than a macky ....
