What's peoples views on this place? Got some rag from there today was the worst rag I've ever used, was so wet and soggy a couldn't even pick it up, maybe a bad batch, just curious that's all

dont think its any different from other places m8 ive had good bait from them and some s***e, same can be said for the bait ive had from rutherfords

Most tackle shops are the same that sell farmed rag, somtimes they get bad ragworm from the farms not much they can do about it, tackle shops that sell wild rag from my experiance have top bait just about all the time.

bait

bait

for some reason anglers put up with bad bait if it was a food item you would get trading standards in is it because anglers are frightened to get barred from shops i know from my own experience there is bait for regulars i use the same shop every week i got good bait week in week out i have been to s/s pier with good bait and seen people who were in the shop before me have crap bait ---ps i dont mean Fishing republic

i think you would be better off discussing this with the shop owner as oppose to on here because it just turns into a slagging match, which probably wont go down to well with the said shop.

am not sure about rag because this is farmed but with crab and lug they have to take what they can get due to tides/weather etc.

bait

bait

most of the time its about money most shops break even or loose on bait so they sell as much crap as they can as i have said the shop i go to i can help my self there will be 3 or 4 trays 1 tray with old bait in and the rest with good bait they get rid of old bait first

i have been to shops in scotland where they bring the tray out to you and fill the bag in front of you you can see what you are getting so its upto you if you want it instead of the lucky dip when you get home

thats what all tackle shops should do, billys in shields does.

to be fair i have never received crap bait from fishing republic . he has not missed a single order i have placed with him ...it is farmed stuff i have asked them. some days the worms can be a bit better if not i think i have been lucky enuff to get relatively consistent worms from there...now if u want really bad bait i know just the place .....

nope why do people always think if you dont get a bad batch you are a regular when you get your bait from republic they wrap the worms in front of you if you dont like the quality then dont buy it simple i only get bait from there once a month or so i normally get it from north east tackle at the end of the day we are supporting our local tackle shops so they can stay open as too many of late is closing down

would not say i am a regular there. but i have used them when i can as i think it is a reasonable shop. i also 'frequent another shop and get the same crap but what can u do when time is limited .have u tried other shops in r area in sunderland u have a fair number of places u can get stuuf from ...nets / trading post . and rutherfords.

im just a bit curious as well.was the rag worm alive,ie squirming about?
if it was youve probably just bought the best freshly dug rag your likely to get.
wet and soggy, cos its fresh not farmed crap mate.
you need to dry the worm in newspapers before you use it,then you will see just how alive it is

i don't think that anglers are frightened of being barred from a tackle shop, i think the reason we put up with ****e bait is that we have no option, when we plan a sesh we want fresh bait so we go down to the nearest tackle on that day to purchase some fresh rag along with other baits, if the rag is ****e what do you do [****e live rag is better than no rag at all ] and there lies the problem we are not buying a loaf of bread to consume, we are buying fish bait, how do you explain to the the powers that be that this 4 oz of live rag i have just bought is out of date, i'm afraid that we just have to put up with it

aye some shops have s**t bait but as said youve possibly just got some really fresh worm:)

if lively but really slimey feeling there nice and fresh they just need dryin out a bit hence why the shops norm wrap them in news paper

you can tell when there no good go green and lifeless and start chucking their tails

I'm sure shops could do something about it! If they're getting crap from the supplier don't take it. I know shops that I've been in have told me they've got no bait cos they sent it back if it was rubbish. Most reputable dealers won't sell rubbish or you don't go back.
