Hi all I've notice a lot more people are using fixed spools with Baird. I fancy trying something new but I haven't got a clue what are the best reels and I don't fancy spending a small fortune just in case I can't get away with them.

A youse fix spools all the time as most fishing aye do is at nyt so saves all the berds nests ect what kind ov fishing u wonting to do ?

You can't go wrong with a Shimano GT 8000. Great reels, and you can pick em up on fleabay for around £35.

Shimano Aerlex. I like mine so much I bought a second one. If you are using braid get the 6000 as its identical to the 8000 just with a smaller spool.

Avoid Daiwa Emcasts I have broken two of them after only two years use. Not very sturdily made unlike the Shimano which is well solid.

Go to Lidl and have a look at the crivit fixel spool reels for £15, lots of people on here have them and are a good reel for the price, Something worth looking at and wont break the bank, You could always get a better one if you like using them

I'll second the Shimano Aerlex its a fantstic reel, I have the XS bigpit 8000 version, had it 2 and half year now with no problems. Bomb proof reels and fantastic value at roughly 70 notes.
