Fixed Spool

Hello all,

I'm after some advice and thought that the casting forum would be the best place to ask so I hope you don't mind my post.

I'm after a quality fixed spool reel to use mainly on my Century Blackbird, it will be used for fishing and some casting practice.

I think I've narrowed it down to either the Daiwa Basia, the Daiwa Infinity-X BR 5000 or the Shimano Technium but which reel would you choose? Also would you buy the 1200 or 1000 size Shimano? Would the Basia be too small?

Thanks in advance, Ian.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies and pm's lads, it's much appreciated. I'm going to get the Shimano, don't know which size to get yet, my BB is rung for a multiplier so maybe the 10000 size rather than the 12000 would be the best option? Maybe it doesn't matter so again any advice would be welcome.

Led, you're right, the magnesium shimano looks great but even discounted they're very expensive, quality bit of kit though.

Thanks again, Ian.

Ian,

Think long and hard about 1 thing - weight of the reel.

Most BIG fixed spool reesl weigh around 23oz with no line  thats 1.5 tins of beans without line :o

Taking the Mg aside you are removing almost 35% of the weight.

It's a critical factor that is often over looked.

If weight isn't an issue then look at the Ultegra XSA (instant drag). ;)
