Floats and Beachcasters

Are there floats big enough out there that can be cast with a 12ft Beachcaster?

Am racking my brain how to tackle the Bass conundrum and am keen to try something different....

I could easily use the light set-up but I want to maybe cast it a little further than 20yds

Once you've found your bass mark, they will seldom be more than 50ft from the shore in my experience, so the big rod is overkill for what will probably be a schoolie about 1lb in weight. Fish with light gear and fresh crab, or better still SWFF for them.

My heads still woozy from last night...what's SWFF?

I reckon I'll try big rod and also light rod...just need some wind now to stir the sea up a bit...it's too flat at the mo'

SWFF --- Salt Water Fly Fishing

Location is the key with Bass. Once you find somewhere they're not actually that hard to catch. Like Rob says, they'll not be far out if they're on the feed.

Had one crackin session casting out no more than about 30 yds into the surf. Pure chance that I got 1st one, nested the reel and the cast just drop short. Was just sorting reel out and the rod starting banging away. Was getting knocks every cast just lobbing it out 30yds or so.

Pm me if you want any more inf Wallsendo

you only need 40/50 yard casts to catch bass
you want to be in the breakers of waves
a pear/round lead is ideal to let the bait wash around in the surf
rag worm is great bait .
but they love sandeels in them conditionsfind your spot and give it a whirl mate i know my spot lol

hi m8

hi m8

put clip on each side i use a 2 hook flapper with a small ball wait on the bottom attach to main line fill with water so u can get the cast just over the surf & let it go the surf doz it's job u get the bass/pollock it works very well

When I get in tonight I'll set it up and take a pic ;)

As to Bass Marks - people are more secretive than Davy Jones locker when it comes to location...just research the theory and then go looking, the marks are very possibly just on your doorstep....not that I know any it must be said. Just going to try a few spots out and hope for the best  :D

What we use down on Anglesey is a "jiff lemon"...and before anybody say's anything it is the lemon shaped type and not the bottle...

When we fish for the bass, especially at this time of year we use a live mackeral for bait which in turn is connected to a 8-10ft of 30lb mono/flurocarbon and a big treble hook through the top of the mouth, and then we just let it swim out over the kelp and rough ground........... easy and very, very effective.....especially for the bigger fish;) ;) ;)

Thats right codnot, you just put a screw eye ( curtain wire type ) into a slow sinking golf ball and attach a clip swivell, and trace. :)

Hi Paul, the reason it's so effective is because the golf ball, unlike a lead, gets washed around in the surf, dragging the sandeel / worm with it so adds a lot of life to the bait. :)
