depends where and when you are fishing.
for me, things like hoppers are always reliable dries, along with anything small and black for some of the wilder places. You can\'t go far wrong with adams dry, black pennel or greenwell\'s glory either
on the wet front, there\'s always a few traditional patterns in my box - Butchers, Kate McLaren, Silver Blue and teal and such like, as well has pheastant tail nymphs, hares ears, damsels
I tie nearly all my own now, doesn\'t take long to get the hand of, and theres a huge satisfaction at catching on something you\'ve tied yourself. There\'s a gut sells some really good kits on ebay, usually go around 25 quid and contain enough hooks and materials to tie hundreds of flies, and luckily some of the most popular patterns can be some of the easiest to knock up
http://www.danica.com/flytier/patternindex.htm
is a good site for the low down on most patterns
usually carry a few klinkhammers, CDC, and a variety of nymphs
I tend to stay well away from the \'stockie\' waters though, so most of my stuff is what might be classed as \'traditional\'
cats whickers, fritz patterns and dawsons olives can be deadly for the stockies though, as can a good selection of buzzers in various colours/patterns, but black/red being top of the buzzer list
