Just a quick post to let skippers know that their is a fishing club that books trips for 7 or 8 anglers and they either don't show or only bring 3 anglers saying they where let down last minute they have done it to me on numerous occasions and also another couple of boats in hartlepool the party are from Yorkshire and the woman that runs the club is convincing so please be aware

Jim there is one way mate to stamp them right out card reader take a deposit a small one doesnt mater if they dont turn up take full payment if they dont turn up you dont book a seat on plane, train etc and think you dont have to pay if you dont feel like turning up there are people out there who think they can take the **** there is one thing for sure they wont do it again and at the end of the day you dont want that sort of customer on your boat ask for payment up front 99% of people these days have debit or credit cards it soon weeds them out if they wont pay a deposit they aint worth writing in the diary.

I know you must be talking about Margaret, as I have been sat on boat waiting to go fishing, she spoils the days fishing by only turning up with 2 or 3 others, not the 7 or 8 she has booked for, and not bothered to turn up at all on a couple occasions which spoils the trip from the off as the skips takings
are down so he wont be doing as much traveling about as fuel costs ect need to be covered.

What an underhand way of getting the boat to yourselves. Trouble is with asking for money up front, they wil just go on to the next till they get someone else they can exploite.
Hopefully, putting their names on sites like this, skippers will soon get wise.

90% of boats we book for the first time ask for a deposit, as they should. I can't imagine that it puts any genuine angler off! The only way to do business I think.

I have never paid a deposit and I have never let down a skipper...easy as

I personally only use 3 different skippers and all know me, so my word is good enough for them. And I aim to keep it that way.

However...if I was a commercial charter skipper and this Margaret character from Yorkshire would phone, I would take a full deposit of course. I probably would do that with anybody who is new to me

Would be happy to pay a deposit

Its not like you have anything to lose as a potential customer either, if the skipper ran off with your money forums like this would trash a boats reputation in days. PayPal has a friendly way of setting this up, its not hard if any skippers are thinking of going the deposit way

Good for book keeping purposes also ;)
