Thats spot on, in days gone by in comps (not just angling) at this time of year all prizes were either Fur (Rabbits) & Feather (Chickens, Turkey etc).
The South Shields & District Sea Angling club stiil use the term Fur & Feather as do many other clubs but instead of rabits etc we give Wine/Buscuits/Quality street type of prizes and everyone who fishes wether they catch or not gets a prize (Christmas spirit) and its been that way for as long as i have known the Shields club.
well that's the crack with our club too...insofar that we each donate a "prize" as opposed to the normal cash match...I had always wondered though (and have been asked on numerous occasions by non angling types) as to where the origin of "fur and feather " came from...now I know it has left me wishing for the meatier version...that is a hint to my fellow club mumbers BTW
