Had a few sessions at some well known marks in Kent this winter. Interesting to talk to the locals down there who all seem to think the North East is Angler's Paradise - cod jumping out the sea :p... I confirmed that it definitely is, of course.

Dungeness is a great mark. Well worth a visit. My best there was this 8lber. The other mark I liked was Deal - not the pier which is snaggy and full of knackers but the beaches. No cod there but tons of whiting, dogfish and pouting. Also saw one lad catch an enormous scad - never seen one of them before.

Nice fish mate. It is a very different kind of fishing down there, I never fished the Kent beaches but I did make the trip up to Aldbrough in Suffolk a couple of times (the three miles each way along the shingle to the Aerials is an absolute killer) and regularly headed west to Chesil.

Where I lived (Portsmouth) the winter fishing was pretty pants to be honest. You could get the odd codling off Eastney and out of the Solent but it was very hit and miss, hence why we used to put the miles in to Chesil or Suffolk

Cheers lads.... Chesil's my next mission, Stewart. Might have missed the best of the winter fishing there but it seems to throw up all sorts of things all year.

It's not the weather for chest infections, Davy. Get well soon mate. I'm trying to get up for one of the last matches so hopefully see you soon...
