have ben relaibly informed this morning that a good number of ling have been taken off the ground by commercial boats, one hot spot seems to be just off the windmills at Blyth. The biggest reported was about 30lb, apparently they are in after the whiting.

Just private max 4 people.

JFK often goes out at this time of year and he has done well in past years

Been down the mariner today and my word it was cold, tried out the new outboard and by the time i fitted it to the back (max 5mins) my hands ready to drop off. Mariner frozen again also in the main bit, free of ice in my bit with the water movment from the lock gates.

Shady had a peek out this morning, got to the ling wreck but couldn't hold bottom so headed straight back in. Must of been a bit bumpy even Mr Skinner headed in early.

Brave men on Shady, like i said i was down doing work and once my hands got wet they froze lol.

Cold wind from the sea today, shame you never managed a good few hours as its crying out for some catches at the moment, i dont ahve the experiance of fishing this time of year to really go out with anything of hitting and hoping on a few marks and wrecks.

talking to a few of the skippers from whitby their wrecks have been fishing well when the water has been clear on shads with squid picking up when not too clear. Uptiding has been successful too when loads of colour.

They been going miles out thou.

Fingers crossed we get a spell of good weather soon, have a month worth of leave to take before end of May so will be after a few trips :)

Past records on private and charter wrecks only going back 4 years thou for this time of year have shown very patchy for me with only 1 real good fishing trip (by good i mean 8 plus cod)

no mate they were up to 14 miles the other week but prior to this weather the 5-6mile wrecks doing the business

so not too far

Worth a look out if weather ok but the big boys may have scooped the lot up by now, from the reports it does seem the whiting have moved inshore in force.

Alan out of interest, what was the biggest Ling from the Tyne/Wear that you can remembe rof 2008?

Cant remember hearing of any over 26lb from last year.
