Getting there

Well me and my mate where given the day off today , we only found out yesterday so what ya gonna do ....obviously we had to get some piking in :D:D.

So off we headed ,strangely getting up before you would normally do for work didn't seem to be a problem this morning .

Looking over the Loch we pondered our options ,and I said we should fish the swim we couldn't last week , so off we jolly well went .

What a nightmare getting there we had to get through a bog and a half , carrying somwhere around 40lb of kit , I've not weighed it but I would reckon I'm close ,so obviously we sank into the mud ( like two rotund blokes carrying a lot of gear would :).)

Anyway we eventually got there and got set up ,deadbaits in the water and gear set up ......where we could find dryish bits .

The first run came to Steve ( not me ) ,a Jack of about two pound ,nothing amasing but still a fish and an early one at that , then I got one about the same followed by a screaming run , very exciting stuff ,the fish stayed deep all the way in ,kicking and kiting ,great stuff and canny fight ,anyway the fish turned out to be my best yet at 8lbs .

I had another two smaller jacks after that much to my mentors disgust :D:D , but hey I wouldn't have got ANY pike at all without his teaching .

SOOOOOO ,the next target is obviously a double figure fish , not an easy objective in any fishing situation but I do feel like I'm heading in the right direction , I know how hard it's been from the shore and from the boat while sea fishing , but hey you never know .

Well done mate , you say that your next target is a 10lb fish , don't worry ,it will come ,but to put into prospective , if you were out sea fishing and you caught a 2lb fish it would be fantastic , the chances of catching a 10lb sea fish are remote to say the least, but when you are pike fishing, and your alarms starts going off, your heart pounds as you know that it might not only be a 2lb fish, which is great ,but it also could be a 20lb er , when you hook a big girl [90% of fish in excess of 10lb are female], she will look like a crocodile when she comes to the surface, it is amazing, and very possible. If you put in the time, it will happen , if you want to know some big fish areas local to the north east pm me ,and we will see what we can do, shorter journeys and bigger fish make such a sweet combination, plus you don't have to get up as early.---Karl

Cheers Karl ,you're certainly right about the excitement AND the fact that there is a chance of a big girl ,I've caught more fish over 5lb lately than the last two years shore fishing .
