going to buy lures advise needed

hey all im bout to order a good selection of lures primarily for pollock , the savage gear loose body reel eels and and sand eels look and sound good to me.
was thinking about getting a few 29g and 42g jig heads for them but im curious as weather they would be to big for the bodies? and would like to know how they cast befor a shell out for em.

i also like the look of the psycho sprat and seeker lures (all one piece metal).

also im wondering what you guys like to use and how the cast and catch?

ive had considerable success with the crappy cheap ones but cant help thinking some fish are put off by these.

Hi Dan the Savageear Sandeels look good yes, they cast reasonably well but I have yet to catch a good pollack on one. I have had much better success using redgills and gulp sandeels and have had big fish on the 4" ones so there is no real need to get bigger and you will still catch the smaller fish on them so lots of fun. They work in the dark too. I had a five pounder on a Fiish Black minnow a few weeks ago but that lure is a bit big for the smaller fish so if you were only using that you might get a bit bored if there are no big fish about. Zenith spinners work too if you are in daylight and cast a long way , 40g size is my favourite. Jellyworms work too best colours for me have been black/red tail and motor oil (brown with gold flecks and orange tail). Just take a selection and keep changing lure until you find what the fish are going for.

cheers guys, didnt even know there was a lure section.... durrrrrrrrrr,
never mind.

do those little red gills cast well or do u need a ball weight swivel then the lure for casting?

It depends on the casting weight of your rod mate. The larger 7" redgills weigh 17g so if you have a light enough rod you can cast them on their own. The 4" ones weigh 4g so I use a half ounce bullet lead which is more streamlined than a round ball lead and less likely to snag up.
