It just shows what state the legislation is in, when they argue about a "gentlemans agreement" being broken...too many secret handshakes and back handers going on by the looks of things

The only way we are ever going to get that to happen is if we work together...share information and act as a united group of NE anglers.
You got my email the other day...it could actually happen here in the NE...the problem is that it needs the support of every angler.
Best thing I could do is start a rumour that fishing will be banned here in NE and pm me to get it stopped. I am struggling to get support for a particular proposal I aim to make.
I have emailed the NFSA to get them to propose a trawling ban inshore up here ...what have they done ...sod all...never even replied to the email.
But I dont give up easy and things are still moving on.
The site admin have upped my pm allowance because at the moment I dont want my plans to be found by Google.
If anyone wants more details feel free to pm me.
Anglers here in the NE can make a difference ...we did as far as the license was concerned...lets do it again but lets make sure its entirely in the interests of NE anglers.
So far the support has been better from divers than from this forum...It honestly doesn'tmatter where support comes from...

Dave. I agree entirely.
Where is our voice in support of angling? Why aren't they pushing for a ban on trawling within the EMS?
I only heard them re: the licence when they were spending more time arguing about why it was held in Newbiggin instead of further South, instead of coming out in support for those that had worked to arrange the meeting (which they did.....eventually).
Surely they should be liasing with the SACN to push for a ban.
Re: e-mails. I am still wating for a reply I sent to our club chairman re: the EMS which was sent more than 2 weeks ago. Unfortunatley I think people are happy to moan about the lack of fish but aren't prepared to channel their energies into doing something about it!

Things normally move along quite slowly in government circles, but perhaps a can of worms has been opened here.
This week I have recieved several very intresting emails and things look promising to say the least.
For the moment I would rather not go into too much detail, but as soon as the i's are dotted and the t's crossed I will open another thread...hopefully we will be able to call it good news for fish up north.
If anyone wants further details pm me and I will send stuff via email till the time is right for the forums to do their stuff.
One thing I can say is this is not a Eu issue, or a CFP issue, or even defra or westminster. It will ( and can ) all be sorted in Morpeth Town Hall.

For those who dont know what an EMS is ...its a European marine Site.
Basically a nature reserve set up by the government to conform with EU legislation.
The point is Northumberland has one...and a big one at that. It runs for almost half the distance from BErwick to Newcastle.
There is a fairly strict set of rules for activities in the EMS , and with particular focus for those activities that are identified as being potentially harmfull to the protected sites within the EMS. Its those rules that I have spent the last six months looking at.
For details of the Northumberland EMS including a map take a look at Berwickshire & North Northumberland Coast European Marine Site
There are also other conservation areas here in the NE.
The EMS will almost certainly be made into a MArine Protected Area under the proposals within the Marine Bill. Its just that no one has said what a MPA will actually entail in terms of what can and cant be done. Thats where anglers need to be at the table in the discussions to ensure our voice is heard.
After travelling south to meetings along with Loopy from this site it became very clear that the voice of NE anglers would not be given time to speak , or listened to on a serious basis. Its impractical for NE anglers to attend London based meetings from a purely cost point of view. For two of us to attend a 7 hour meeting the cost was well over 200 pound and that does not include hotels ( we stayed with friends)or consideration for lost earnings.
The Northumberland EMS is run by a management group and I have been invited to attend the next meeting...and put the case for anglers. The problem is which hat to wear. I am regional co-ordinator for the SACN and I will be emailing those NE anglers who have joined to seek their comments/suggestions and help in the next few days. The NFSA who have put themselves up as the voice of sea anglers have not made any comment so far but I will be attending their next meeting of the NFSA conservation committee when a date is arrange.
You dont have to be a member of the NFSA to attend this, but its held down south. I anyone wants to come with I have four places in the car and it will be a long day as during the summer I can only spare one day. Yes the meetings are held down south.

Most of the members of the NFSA Conservation Group live down south, so it's a lot more convenient, and cheaper for all to meet down there.
(Mind you, meeting twice a year near Reading and once down in Devon, it's quite a hike for me from Kent!).
When Nigel was a member it was proposed and accepted that we would have at least one meeting per year up in the North East, but Nigel dropped out and so the CG went back to meeting where it suits most members.
However, if NE members are prepared to get involved and share the workload of the CG, then I would imagine that some meetings could be arranged in the NE, and if NE anglers were to get more involved and replace some of those from the South, then it would be a case of being cheaper to hold most meetings in the NE.
But now it's a chicken and egg situation, NE anglers don't get involved because it costs too much to go to meetings, so the meetings are made up of mostly Southern anglers and so meet in the South because it works out a lot less expensive.
Incidentally, NFSA members attending NFSA CG meetings, or going to meetings on NFSA/CG business are able to claim travel expenses from the NFSA.
