gripping multiplier spool

i am having trouble getting a good grip with my thumb on the spool of my multiplier as my finger keeps slipping off, has anyone got any advice on how to get a better grip.

There's two ways you can do it mate...

First you can cut the thumb off an old rubber glove and wear that when your casting...or...

Tape a strip of old inertube at the back of your reel on the rod and then flap it over to grip your line ( you can also attach it by pushing it under your reel seat.

Ps,,, you can also wrap elastic bands around your thumb,,,, and take 'em off after casting..

Bit expensive that way coddy mate,,,last thumb i bought cost me and arm and a leg,,,pmsl.

Try not to over fill the spool with line, and spread it evenly across the whole width when winding in. This may help if you have small hands.

try using the multiplier down the butt...I had the same problem and this solved it for me

Has your multi got a level wind? If so get a hack saw out and get rid of it, more trouble than they are worth those things, getting shot of the top bar will mean you can wrap your thumb round and get a proper grip of the spool.

the multi hasnt got a level wind and i use it down the butt, i have used just put an old bike innertube under the reel, but havent tried it out yet but i think it will get a better grip that way

What rod are you using and also what reel seat?

Reason I ask is I've got a WR300 and an Abu Grip-Lok and that is a PITA to grip the spool because it is so bulky. OK for fishing when I don't need to cast but on the field I take the Grip-Lok off and use coasters. Putting those together with a big reel like a SLOSH would make casting impossible for someone like me with quite small hands.

Much better than inner tube imo. Tape it on just next to the reel foot so the free end is hanging down the butt. Stretch it across the spool and cut it to length. Don't have it too long, just enough to protect your thumb, as you don't wanting it catching the spool on release as could slow it down a tad.

I use the reel down on tt Sport, and use the ' Heavy duty Cycle innertube' ( cost me £7.99p..lol )cut a strip about 9", long and about 1.1/2 " wide, then just double it over and tape about 4" of it on to the rod below your reel position fixing, using electritions tape, then cut some shrink tube and cover the taped area with this and shrink it down with boiling water, it is spot on for me with both 7000 size and 650 size reels. Ive just done the job on a WR300 ( reel Down ) bought today from NETS and its perfect.
