News this morning suggests the shooters are next in line

not heard that one yet, much more money in the shooting game so be interested to see how that progresses, can\'t imagining it having a massive mount od success as the positives far outweigh the negatives, and shooting is only a _VERY_ small step from angling. they cannot really target one and not the other, but hey george and tony have god on their side so who knows...

I can hear tony now \"God says I have to stop you all shooting and fishing, even though his son did a bit of fishing, and I have to increase all your taxes topay for the privelege, in order balance the lost revenue\"

my post was a bit tongue in cheek mark , there is no question who is in their sights next and they have said so . I believe you missed the extended debate on foxhunting a good while back and a lot of the members thought that hunting was totally seperate from fishing , and I hope they are right ! But , is it fair for a democratic society to \"Ban\" things a minority does ? It could be argued that cutting an animals throat to bleed to death is outrageous , but it happens EVERY day in our slaughterhouses by Rabbis and for Halal meat for the muslim population . I do not in any way advocate foxhunting but if some people wish to hunt , it\'s none of my business !! There will now be a load of trouble ( from law abiding people who happen to put food on our table btw ) , To the people who wanted a ban I say well done in your efforts . Just hope is was worth it .

cant say ive tried fox ? ;)

you cant really throw the farmers in with the hunt mob as a lot of farmers are against it as well as members of the public, ive no objection to meat prepared as part of a religious thing, ive seen it done and IMO its still a lot less barbaric than fox hunting, shooting and fishing are not the same but then again are ,while shooting is a humane way of control as is fishing in some aspects they differ in a lot of ways, the revenue from these 2 sports will make it a hell of a difficult thing to ban
ive always said if you need to control foxes then shoot them ,but that said its already been pointed out on here that nature maintains a balance if the fox eats rabbits and theres no foxes you get more rabbits so why not just leave well alone,if fox was edible then fair enough but as its nothing but sport and not very sporting at that from the foxes point of view then im glad the ban is going ahead ,if the fox was hunted fairly say 1 hound 1 fox (my moneys on the fox) then i wouldnt have a problem with it ;)

Good points Bri . If you read though I was not advocating foxhunting and don\'t condone it at all . But if you think we are not in the firing line next mate your wrong , they have even said so . On the point of shooting ( Which I\'ve done ) a clean kill does not always happen and the animal may suffer for days in it\'s burrow with a festering wound . The point I\'m making is this , you can over a period of time make a very good case for banning anything if you put your mind to it (smoking for one ! ) , when we are in as much trouble as the UK is in overseas and at home I would of thought we have better things to concentrate on than foxhunting at this moment in time !

totaly agree with you dave ,far better things need attention ,my old grandad used to say (may he RIP)give em a inch theyl take a mile and boy was he right ,he hated goverment no matter which party was in,they use the public for scoring points and nothing more ban this itl win votes ,ban that etc ,but there cutting there own throats just cant see it yet and when they do itl be too little too late

Aye , your not rang bri . On a slightly different note but a similar Vein , when the new ID cards were first mentioned a few lads said if you\'ve nowt to hide you\'ve got nowt to worry about . The first chance they get they nick two anglers under the anti-terrorist laws in liverpool docks :o , if that is not a blatent mis-use of power i dont know what is . I\'ve lived in and visited countries that have ID cards and harsh laws , dont go there ! As the song goes , you don\'t know what you\'ve got till its gone .

In the paper this morning PETA are now saying there is no place in our society for fish and chips as it is cruel to fish, causes stress when they are caught.Hasn`t took long for them to turn to their next target ,US.They won`t be happy until everyones a veggie

Here\'s a thought then, if they target fishing/fish and chips etc does that mean that commercial fishing will also be illegal??

try get that one past the spanish!

my post was a bit tongue in cheek mark , there is no question who is in their sights next and they have said so

absolutely! but a thought that has occurred to me since that debate is that if the shotting lot do become a target we had all better get behind em as its only a very small step from angling as a sport to shooting. I have tried combining the 2 once, very very pissed, tried shooting some trout in the river, never hit a single one!

One arguement someone threw at me that I found a bit hard to counter was that of the coarse/carp angler who goes to specific water cos there\'s a big fish that has been pulled out loads of times already and put back in. hos arguement was on the cruelty issues, that the poor fish is repeatedly made to fight for its life. At least we aim to catch for the pot

I think your right for our arguement for a fish for the table Mark, but being devils advocate here. Some thing we are all talking about is catch and release comps being a good idea. That is something that they would argue about mate.

Jim.

Like Mark points out, we should all get behind the shooting lads as we WILL BE NEXT if they gain another victory there. Most shooters are members of BFSS or BASC (if just for the 3rd party liability insurance) and their subs go towards financing their legal fights when this crap occurs.

How many of us can say we are menbers of the NFSA and actively contribute to save our sport?????????
