Thats a lot of cash to be spending on a rod when you are still new to the game and settling into a casting style. Why not consider spending some of that money on a casting lesson or two then try and pick a rod that suits your style.
The Sharpes gear tends to be good quality but all there rods that I have tried have had a more traditional soft action to them.
£500 will put you into the Sage/G.Loomis area.

try allen reid in crook. If you get your ger from there he\'ll throw in casting lessons. Never seen anyone that can cast as well. Put me to shame a while back. Someone bought a cheap shakespeare fly rod for 30 quid and he was giving her some lessons on the grass out side. 3 strokes and he had 50yards of fly line and several yards of backing in a perfect straight line in front of him. Handed me the rod and everyone ran for cover!
Must have been a special fly line to be 50 yds long!
Sless, I got a great deal on a 10ft 6/7 Greys GRX, GTX reel, 3 Platinum fly lines and all backing and loops. Retail it should be about £280.00 and I paid £210.00 plus p+p. Its a great rod with a bit more punch than my previous Daiwa 10ft rod casting the same line.

My first post to NESA for almost two years, and it\'s it to the fluff chuckers forum. I dunno what the world\'s coming to.
Have you considered building your own rod? Easy enough job, and you can save a fortune. Hardy blanks are available from Sportsmail.
Sharpe\'s rods are almost all built on the UK Harrison blanks, or so I\'ve been informed, and these and both Loomis and Sage blanks are avaible from Lathkill tackle http://www.lathkill.com/ among others,. They also build rods to order using any of these blanks and you could save quite a bit doing it that way if you don\'t fancy rolling your own.
I\'ve also heard that Century build fly rod blanks for distribution to the trade. I\'d be interested in one of these myself, but so far I\'ve not been able to track any down, assuming the story\'s true.
But if you intend to spend that sort of money I\'d bypass Hardys and go straight to either Sage or Loomis. They\'re much better rods IMO. Even better, and quite a bit cheaper are the Italian Gatti rods. Not recommended if you fish weighted lures or goldheads though. They\'ve got to be the thinnest walled blanks on the market, and I doubt they\'d stand the impact of a goldhead if you mis-cast.

If you want to try a rod go to the Game Show at Nissan on the 20th Feb. You will be able to try out any rod you fancy on the field or compare them together. You will also be able to get some casting tuition and advice for free.
I will be there myself on the 2nd hand stall. If I have the time I will kindly give you 10 minutes tuition.
