Have We Forgot The Spirit Of NESA?

For me the thread below is the true spirit of NESA...I joined up in 2007 (I applied for an allotment that year too...) keen to get back into a hobby I had not taken part in since I was a kid

I created a snappy internet username, asked a load of questions and made new friends...not just "internet" friends but peeps I met in real life and went fishing with

Here we are 7 years down the road and I still fish alongside the same friends on shore and on the boat (and I'm up to 14th on the waiting list for the allotment LOL)

Great post Ian, you should reinstate it.

I agree this place just isn't as friendly as it used to be.

Maybe that's down to the membership increase, or maybe the lack of previous admins like Jim or Tony who devoted a lot of time to the site and organised events.

Thanks Keith, I thought about the post a little while after I'd posted it and thought "why bother? people seem quite happy so maybe it's just me".....so I removed it.

Probably best to just ignore the daft posts and hijacked threads as a few have mentioned.

I'll probably just watch from afar for a while, I don't contribute as much as I did a while ago anyway.

Regards Ian

benefit of the doubt for a short while. Don't like banning folks, but has to be done sometimes. If mods were quick to pull the trigger there'd be even more complaints, so we let it go for a while, see if the user can pull themselves back then they are gone if they don't. It's not easy finding a happy medium

some of us have been here 14/15 years or more. Seen more hassles, and had to ban more people in the last year than all the previous years together. the first 10 years probably saw maybe only one person banned that I can remember. maybe 2.

I don't think naming/shaming banned people by publishing the who's and why's is very productive and doesn't achieve anything except open a debate as to the reasons and probably see the whole thing brought back to the boil. So they go, thats an end to it.

Not long ago after several were shown the door, someone started a thread immediately as to the why/wherfores. The original arguement started again in that thread and resulted in someone else going the journey

I saw more reported post emails and PM'd complaints about the last particular one than any previously. I did stick a thread up last year trying to be lighthearted, the old yellow card red card mallarkey. made no difference

give an eejit enough rope they will still hang themselves

Spirit of NESA is very much alive and well. Its a 2 way street though. You only get out, what you put in.

Couldn't agree more Mark. A mod makes a decision, end of story. You have a hard enough job with having to explain the whys and wherefores. I allowed myself to get wound up by a couple posts last year, but quickly realised I had to pull my head in or lose my membership.

This is the best site on the web, by far! I came on here knowing only what I remembered from fishing as a young guy on the Clyde. I have learned so much from members, regarding boat fishing and places to fish from the shore in the NE. Guys willing to meet us when we come down and as someone else said you become not just internet friends but actually meet up. I might not catch many fish, but I would miss being a member dreadfully. Compare this site with the secrecy and in fighting on other sites and you can see how great this NESA is.

In my opinion the only other site worth a membership is SAR. Obviously it has way less members, but a good friendly site none the less. NESA has a great set of lads and if a few take things too far, then they will get banned eventually. Ignore the "daft" threads and just read what interests you and you can't go wrong on here

Now if only I could catch some damn fish!

Keep up the great work NESA. :)
