Just joined so thought I would be polite and say hello before I start bombarding you with loads of questions :)

Now for my first question(s) and no incase anyone asks this isn't a wind up - I really am a newbie!!!

Never tried shore fishing before, done all my fishing at still waters, fly, spinner and ledgering for trout - so I know nothing about shore fishing etc.

I live not too far from tynemouth so it would be there I am fishing (longsands) - am I right in thinking that I don't need a licence etc, I can just turn up and fish? I am so used to paying the EA licence and day tickets I am struggling with that concept :D

Also, I presume that I will need a new rod and reel as all my stuff is for still water, unless there is any point in using a spinner/plug there?

Cheers all, I will let you get some peace - for a short while anyway :O)

Cheers Marco, I shall have to get some new stuff sorted out then - often fancied shore fishing. The wifes mum and dad live up in Eyemouth and I wouldnt mind giving up there a try as well at some point :)

I feel a sale coming on lol

Like ya style m8 ha ha. And geo u need to get to ya local tackle shop they will help you and your custom will be much apricated to small businesses like fishing tackle shop. You need to think about wat ground your fishing on ie rough ground or clean or mixed we have varied beach and rock marks that have all kinds of ground. And you have to match the tacke to the fishing location as in all fishing as u well no it can become expensive. My sergestion wud be to start mid range and get a feel for things and see if you like it then take it from there as u dont want to go out and by all top of the range gear to find that sea fishing isnt for u. All the best fella wellcome to nesa hope u enjoy your new sea fishing experience :)

Cheers Tone, you are an absolute star! Can't wait to get out and give the rod a try.

You're very welcome mate, let us know when its christened!:D

Hoping to take it out tomorrow - headed up to Eyemouth today to see the familiy, so took a spinning rod and some lures - by the time I got there the tide was out so I left the wife and kids on the beach and headed for the rocks a the bottom of the caravan park - was there for about 15 mins and the heavens opened so I had to head back to collect the family and go back to the wifes parents. Going up the stairs I managed to trip and fall on my net, bending the handle and stopping the extension thing working!!! oops, other than that though I had a fantastic day and can't wait to get out to tynemouth tomorrow! lol.

Going to head back up in a few weeks and stop over for a day or two though, at least that way I can try different marks and different tides etc.
