ive bought a second hand rod and it has a glow worm holder on the tip.its looking like the lad has used super glue (im waiting for him to confirm this ),I don't like them on a rod so is there a way to remove it without damaging the rod.any rod builders give me a clue as how to try get it off
cheers

best ask a rod builder but i have used the pvc cleaner i have to clean my rod and eyes as it removes any tinny bits of rust and cleans all in ground dirt of, i then used a high gloss wax to clean it back up might sound daft but it sparkles after clean and did not damage it at all.

Peter will that not attack the high build,I would ask stan before attempting to remove.

that's what im worried about,i hope he sees this thread and can point me in the right direction.im getting hits on google saying hot water so might try that or steam from kettle

i have had my rod for 18 year and every time i put tip eye on i use super glue and to get them off i put the tip inover the kettle and keep trying it if it will not come off i dip in sum boiling water still got same rod has not done nothing to my rod

ill try using steam and hot water first.anyone else have a idea if it fails to remove it.the lad is saying leave it on incase I damage rod tip so god knows how hes glued it on.the rods not getting delivered till tomorrow so I wont know how bad its glued till I see it myself.may need advice from a rod builder if anyones reading this

I had a set of upper dentures which had a tooth come off so I superglued it back on.
The dentist said it would only be temporary since superglue was water soluble.
So steaming or soaking would seem the way forward. My tooth's still on by the way.

For what it's worth I used to have them on my rod tips too but I found that occasionally the line would get wrapped around it before casting and cause one hell of a crack off or almost drag the rod out of my hands if the shock leader hadn't cleared the spool on line release.

On one occasion it happened on Crimdon beach and the rod top section pulled free and went around 20 yards into the sea. Won't use them at all now for that reason.

I would keep clear of acetone based chemicals it almost certainly will do some damage to the carbon fibres
It's that powerful it dissolves most plastics aswell & could even damage ceramic

Warm salty water should do it, just like it eventually comes off sweaty fingers. Remember the simpsons episode when bart got the tap stuck on his head?

if it's super glue, boiling water will do it,
keep away from acetone chemical, these will damage the rod finish.

if, however the tip light holder has been stuck on with no nail's or similar product a wouldn't have a clue.
