Have just installed some updates from microsoft and immediately I\'ve got a red circle with a white x in it telling me that I\'m infected with spyware. It won\'t go away and when I follow the instructions in the box -
\"Recommend you use antispyware tools.....click here\"...
it finds them for you but tells you you have to register. Registration means a one off payment of 35 dollars, so you don\'t delete them, so the bloody message keeps coming up.

I\'ve tried Spy Sweeper which caught 5, AdWare which is different, I think and AVG but the box is still there.

Any ideas guys???

Will do a months homework if you\'re successful.

Thank Batt - ran it and it found a hundred and something spy things but did not stop the flashing thing. Is it just windows advertising? Mate suggested getting rid of it via msconfig but it doesnt have a \"handle\" to find it by. Will persevere.

bleedin typical of MS one of there updates is supposed to remove Malicious software, you could try lavasoft adware,if i recall correctly run disk cleanup and delete cookies might cure it,if its there on start up try removing whatever it is in add remove programmes,i dont have any bother with using norton as it blocks any pop ups ,and i use verified updates software for windows update

It is definately just advertising David. I had three different ones when my son rebuilt my PC. Don\'t know how but he deleted them as he knew what he was looking for mate.

Jim.

if your using windows messenger get rid of it ,it causes half the blinkin pop ups disable it in run GPEDIT.MSC and install the msn version

if you need to know where to look drop me a line and ill pm the instructions

I used the peecee I have sat here to runsome test on something I\'m working on and allowed it on the internet for a few hours, and I got exactly the same thing, big red box accross the desktop \"spy ware infection\" pop ups etc etc.

I did manage to get rid of it, There\'s a big button the front of the peecee, I pressed it and it went away, mind you so did everything else. Power button I think its called, not seen one of them before

Haven\'t turned it back on since, but if any one knows how to ge rid, that would be nice

If Plan A (above) fails, I have a Plan B...involves lighter fluid and some matches If the pyschiatrist lets me have some.

It still does genuinely amaze and impress me that 85% of the computer using planet can bear to put up with it

The only other answer I can think of is a pill. Its made of lead and is inserted at high vilocity into the motherboard. Stops everything.
