hi all had a big surprise when fishing under the wear bridge today

started to wind in and had a VERY heavy load , thought ok i have weed or kelp on , fought it in and had to hand ball it up the wall , i had

2 tesco bag fish
3 gripper leads and a mile of line
3 tonne of kelp
5 small crabs
and , and this is the surprise

a mackerel !!!! well when i say a mackerel it was well chewed from the crabs but it had a full spine so was whole

Excellent, nice catch report :D

Had a weird one in Blyth harbour one night back in my late teens, same deal with a hellish heavy weight, the heart was racing, rod bent double and line singing in the wind under the strain. Slow and gentle until the beast was at the surface within the light of the lamps on the quays - 2 milk-crates tied together with rope! Dunno what that was about, but typically the line broke when I tried to lift it so never got a weigh-in of my possible record catch! :D

my brother once actually caught an old boot a steely it was must of been thru up stream from the pit we were at clatchy fishing on the floating platform which is no more i lost the biggest flatty i have ever seen

remember when i was fishing with uncle at lyneburn pipe he caught a glove lik:De wot the doctors wear full of water with a knot tied in the end it gave a great bite and fight as it must have been bouncing about in the tide he was gutted a was in stitches

Once I struck into what I thought was a fish at the Groyne (South Shields) only to wind in a floral dress which looked like a dead old lady! After untangling the dress I found a raft of tackle, including seven 6oz leads, loads of hooks, swivels, beads, lead links and shrimps (sxcared the s**t out of me like!)

Fishing a Ryhope summer river comp last year, got a crackin bite, struck and reeled in a dead fox, smelt like Flatheeds underpants lol lol :o

I was fishing the Goodwin Sands 3 years ago when I caught a wooden leg. It was one hell of a struggle to get it in, this was because the rest of the table came with it.

Fished Sugar Sands a few years back and there was a dustbin in the surf about 40yds out! Glad I didn't catch it tho!

The strangest living thing ive caught must be a seagull, on a spinner. must have been painful for it,but it was funny, bit like flying a kite. lol:D

ive had a gull at first light off hendon prom , best fight i have ever had while sea fishing

why do you think it is a 0.5 lb carp will pull you round a pond for 20 min but a 5.0 lb cod just drags along with its mouth open

must get back to doing some carp fishing soon i need the exercise :)

Fished Whithorn a few years back and was float fishing at about 6ft down when a Fulmar dived down and took me bait....Fortunately it dropped it but wouldn't go away and kept coming back for it so I had to move.

Nearly had a seal of the bottom corner at the end of the Heugh when fishing for mackeral last year. It was a horrible thing to see what looked like a sideboard speeding up from the depths straight towards me and the macky i had hooked.Luckily the seal turned underwater at the last minute.
