High Shore ?

Can anyone kindly tell me whereabouts this mark is; I know it's the north side of the Tyne somewhere  many thanks,

Gary :)

Google Maps

hope this works Gary - it's the promenaded area at the top of the screen opposite Royal Quays Marina

very frustrating venue for me personally - caught plenty size flatties, Whiting and Coalies but never a Cod of note there yet - although it has been known to chuck up some good bags

Cheers Tony's - I thought it was round there somewhere! Heard there was fish to 4lb there recently & was looking for somewhere a bit different to the Ice-House area; I had a couple of hours there this afternoon but couldn't get anything bigger than about a pound. Is it better at high or low water?

Cheers, Gary :)

I think the standard river rule of thumb applies to the venue and I've fished it both high and low water with similar catch rates - like I said I'm yet to "figure" it out 100%

YouTube - high shore
no idea who that gadgee is trying to hit the ship from sunderland :D

French Arthouse stylee :D

I can remember fishing the Royal Quays next door to that mark some 12years ago or so once i past my driving test. Great mark that beginners could catch fish and not lose much gear. I remember seeing anglers pull in dozens of size codling a session about this time of year and into the summer months. Not me at the time but me and my mates did catch a few. Seems to be thats its all gone now from the river i'm afraid.

Think i seen u fishing today G. beside the Ice store as i had a stroll down. I went down for slack water and the flood. Once the tide began had a codling a chuck alas were only babies..:)

Yeah, I was there for a couple of hours but was well into the ebb when I started - I fished about 1.30 - 3.45 then had to get away and run a few errands. It was patchy & I only managed a couple about a pound. That's why I fancied trying somewhere new in the river, to see if things are any better elsewhere!

Cheers, Gary :)

An angler injured a person on a boat on Tue when he cast out and hit him as he was waiting for the lock gates to turn around.

Well, just put in a few hours down High Shore (4.30 - 8.45) and had only 4 bites, three of which resulted in codlings all about a pound & the other never came back. Seems a canny shot though - next time I think I'll take a flattie-rod as well & see if I can hook up with a few flounders closer in.

I noticed there's a lot less tide-pull than the fish quay as well so can probably fish it on the bigger tides (?) - at least I had the place to myself!

Cheers again everyone, Gary :)

I've found that it can be really snaggy in certain spots mainly caused by other lost tackle - I often try and fish a plain lead if there's not much of a tide running...it's a quality "easy" spot if you just want to pull up in your car and start fishing

aye tony your right ive caught the odd free sinker there :D also a big bit of carpet

Watch out for the boats, there's one nice skipper that deliberately swings in at the last minute.

I normally fish in front of the first lamp post from the Smiths Dock end, it seems less snaggy.

That's where I fished, right up next to Smith's Dock. First cast, I had a good look up & down river, nothing in sight, and my sinker hadn't even hit bottom when some little tub appeared from behind those rusty pilings - no more than about 30 yds out. I wouldn't care but he wasn't going into the marina, he then veered out towards the middle & poodled off up-river. It's a horrible little blind spot & despite feeding out loads of line I ended up losing my leader & about 20 yds of line to his propeller.

However, next cast I reeled in an old trace & sinker so that kind of made up for it. Apart from that the river traffic was generally pretty light, just the odd sailboat coming out of the marina - certainly a lot lighter than the Fish Quay. I don't really know what the bottom's like; certainly down the side at low water I could make out a few rocks & the odd shopping trolley, but managed to avoid finding any snags. A few more visits and maybe some varied tactics will give me a better picture.

Gary :)
