After a visit to Morpeth car boot sale with the wife, thought i'd have a run up the coast as the weather was fine and sunny. Ended up at Seahouses, so I thought i'd check the price to launch a boat to take the the grandbairns out around the Farne islands and a bit of fishing in the summer. Called at the harbour office and asked, the reply was...................£25.:eek::eek::eek: Couldn't believe it, what an absolute ripoff. I don't care if I had ten people in the boat, i would not pay such an extortionate price on principal. Don't know if it's Northumberland county council, or who ever. I pay £46. for a years launching fee at Cullercoats, or when down at Salcombe in Devon, £26. for 1 week.:confused:

think they want you to use thier boats for going round Franes Arthur, sure it wasn't £25 for the year that would sound right, the greedy xxxxzzz 888 xxx, just a thought maybe they think you are going to catch all their fish.

It's £25 per launch, and the boat must have insurance I spoke to the harbour master this morning. For kayaks and canoes it's £5 per launch. The price was decided by the Harbour Commision.

Sam

How can they charge you for a kayak?, we would normally just launch of nearest beach, i presume this is using a slipway in the harbour

Agree mind rip off prices!!

There's a beach launch at Beadnell , a bloke with a tractor takes your boat down to the sea and launches it for you and stores your trailer up the beach till you come back , I'm not sure how much it is , but I think you can launch yourself there for a few quid or the tractor bloke will do it for you for a few quid more , might be worth looking in to if you want to boat around that area?

Ray

The one in Beadnell is at least the same price if not more as they have to have 2-3 people launching for Health and Safety reasons. They bought the rights to the launch aswell so you can't DIY!!!

my god if you go fishing at that launch price 30 times its almost a marina berth fee for a small boat. Add fuel and storage if not on the drive and its getting bloody expensive.

They've certainly got it sewn up in Northumberland, bleed you then squeeze a bit more out of you. It's a few years now, but every place I launched in Scotland was free.
A few years ago, we tested the right to dig worms below the low water line at Newton by the sea, which is mentioned in the magna carta, wonder if there is any way around these unfair restrictions impeding your right for launching to fish.

would imagine because it is a council run launch they will have the right to charge, if you want to chance launching from the beach, don't think they could stop you. Sounds as if they just don't want you there, just think you arrive on holiday with your boat and get hammered when you want to go fishing, looking for somewhere else next time, nothing worse than unfriendly wardens eh Arthur.

Your right Allan, it's a bit like insurance company's who don't want young drivers, so they hike the price up trying to get rid of them. I think they would do you for driving on their beech. Don't get me started on wardens again!

just to confirm lads beadnell is currently £20 increasing to £25 either start of June or July - i know this as this is where I launch/fish from, and yes - total f*****g rip off!!!! still thats the price you pay for the privaledge of fishing from one one the best stretches of coastline in the country.

shields was £21.00 quid a launch last year or £60.00 a year plus £20.00 for a pass for the broken gate at the time

What About Craster have seen a sign saying permission to launch is required by the county council are words to that effect. But has anyone any idea of the cost/s invovled and the procedure to gaining permission. Seen boats being launched there from trailers, because two boats were in front of me from coming off the A1 at Alnwick.

2 hopes of me paying any money to launch my kayak at sea, bob hope and no hope, unless I was to gain access through private propety!

The last time I launched at Craster, 12-15 years ago, I payed £5. to use the ramp, but was not allowed to take the vehicle on the beach. A bloke came down whilst launching, said, that's £5. please,;) I just handed the money over,.............could have been anyone, hmmm!
