Well done Terry mate, the weather was the same at sharpley today, red hot and no breeze, managed 6 but was really hard work. Fly of the day for me black buzzer with green cheeks, size 14
if winds make casting difficult , why does sunshine and no wind make it hard work ? is a visibility thing ? pressure?
newbie question i klnow but is curious .

bright sunshine and no wind makes the water warm, too warm in certain circumstances, therefore making the fish lethargic ( they cant be bothered to go looking or chasing food ) the no wind bit, no ripple on the water and does not cool the surface of the water down.
Best conditions are slightly overcast with a breeze
trout are much more confident and less spooky when theres a ripple.it also helps disguise your line and help it cut through the surface film, and a good ripple will hide your bodys profile.can also add that little extra movement on your fly,on still waters trout will very often follow the ripple picking up any insects that have been blown in the ripple making them more competative for food and less likely to want to take a good look at it,
......also,trout or any other fish don't have eyelids so they tend to go off the feed and sulk on the bottom in these conditions.normally good for an evening rise though, once the suns doon
Good result.
Thats the thing about fly fishing it's a challenge and some times frustrating.I've been fly fishing for many years and It's a big learning curve but when it comes together after a hard day it's worth it.
