When do people reckon the mackerel will be here (Warkworth Pier)?

Before anyone starts with the fosters, tracksuit and air max comments, I'm not one of "those".

I genuinely enjoy the sport with mackerel, especially pulling in 4 with the daylights on the light gear like I did on Blyth Pier last year. I'm trying to stay away from blyth during mackie bashing season this year as i was sick of people barging past to cast out.

Only wondering cos my mates been fishing with me a few times and only caught tiddlers and I am desperate for him to feel the fight of a real fish.

Cheers lads

Last year it was about 1st week in July by my records. But last year was a long cold winter. Water temperature was low but the water was clear around the piers throughout June, but there was nothing there.
This year the water is warmer due to the mild winter but it is dirty.
The Mackerel will not be far away now, probably a few miles out. A bit of settling in the water clarity and I think we will see the first off the piers in the third week in June.
That's my prediction for what is worth

There was a post on the locker 20 mins ago saying one had just been caught on roker pier.

It could be any time but water clarity, bait fish shoals, sea movement will all play a part. It's still worth a bash with sprat type spinners or zeniths anyway. You might pick up decent coalies or pollock even if the macky aren't there yet.

Dont worry about the jokes, alot of mackerel aka 2-3 time a year fisherman give the rest of them a bad name but i find the winter fisherman are just as messy and loud and they are full time anglers.

Anyway looking at my boat records its been between the 24th of May and the 18th of June the last 7 years i have had them, this ranges from 1mile out to 15mile out. They should be on the piers within 2 weeks as long as we dont get a big blow up from a East wind.

Aload of herring in the water at the moment and small sandeel so the food is there for them, also getting loads of coalie now and they are often followed by the mackerel so things looking good.

Give it 10-14 days before given it a real bash i would say but they could land anytime :)
