Right lads and lasses, a question for you if you can spare a minute or so?

Me and a mate are heading up to the Isle of Skye and then onto Lewis and Harris in July and are planning on taking the rods up! Anyone fished up there before? We'll be up there a week and thinking it might be hard to transport a decent amount of bait and im wondering if bait is easily available up there and what you recommend we use!!

Can consider any marks on the said locations!!!

Probably take my Kompressor and a spinning rod so can plan for all sorts of action?

Any info much appreciated!!

Tight lines for the summer!!!!

spent 3 weeks up there last summer but did not find a lot of time for fishing.(took the wife). stornoway sea angling club have a web site, and a club house with a bar in stornoway. Its a great place to meet the locals and get some local info on lewis. i did find most of the locals boat fish and most of the shore is untouched. shore fishing on harris is usually located arround west loch tarbert for skate, some over 100lb.we spent our time driving around the outer hebrides and around every corner was a fishy looking mark, just wish i had more time. never found a tackle shop or came across any bait suppliers but mackeral are plentyful and caught most species ie thornbacks, gurnards, dogfish and spurdog. spinners will take mackeral, pollock, coalfish, also cod and sea trout.

No need to take bait, just take a spinning rod and catch mackerel or a fork and dig worms. I guess you’ll be visiting Uig; the pier there is a good place to get mackerel from and has some deep water marks close by where you can spin for pollock. Staffin bay is often recommended but it looks a bit flat to me. I’ve only fished the Skye shore with lures spinners and flies so let me know how you get on with the bait fishing.

Post your question up on WSF/Scottish Forum. You should get some good advice off the lads on there. Tight lines.

Fished the west side of Skye several years ago. No problem with gathering bait locally lug, mussel, crab etc. There is a good jetty at loch Poolteal with really deep water. Didn't try it but the locals claim there have been some good conger off there. Also try the lighthouse at Neist Point, another good deepwater spot. If you can get out in a boat I can recommend Mooning Bay, we got one of the locals to take us out for the day. Pleant of fish and a good variety.

On Skye you must try Neist point, amazing place. DO a search on WSF, lots of reports on there. Hope the weather is kind to you.

fished the outer hebs and the inner hebs for years the best fishing was on north uist some big pollic in summer if you can get past the mackey just picked muscles of the rocks at low tide for bait a choice of rock or sandy marks camp near the beech lots of flat fish from sandy marks.
