Has anybody fished in ireland? Whats it like? When is the best time to go? Is it best on the north, south, east or west? What bait is best to use? Please let me know as that is where we are thinking about going.:)

potts im from ireland i fished most of the south east coast all my life it depends on what your after.if you want to go for pollock then a mark called bally macaw is a good shot you get rass and mackeral there in the summer if your after cod then a place called passage east is packed full of them mainly around the pound and a half mark up to the odd three pounder.i know a very good bass mark aswell its called the back strand also tramore beach gives good bass aswell a few lads picked a few good bream up off that beach aswell this year tramore beach has given bass up to 14 pound this year if your after rays and the odd tope off the shore then i would recomend the 42 mark on the burren on the west coast of ireland i think its county clare but might be galway.wexford has some good bass beaches aswell but i have never fished there so cant help you out there mate .the river suire in waterford is good for flounder up to three pound. if you need directions to any of these marks let me know i might even be able to get my dad to take you to a few of these marks cos he still lives over there just let me know when and where your going and if he is not working he would take you round.the worst time to go is about this time of the year most of the sea lads take up fluff chucking now for a few months until the mackreal show

get yourself to dingle mate loads of marks of all kinds around there.beaches rock marks, piers.the shannon is in reach as well.plenty of pubs for a drink or two.
only problem is the journey time, drive to holyhead, ferry over then another big drive down to dingle, you need a week there to justify it.

i have fished at
baltimore (south west)
fenit (co kerry)
clifden (west)
crosshaven (cork)
downings(donegal)
mullaghmore (sligo)

and across the co antrim coast

you cant fish in a bad place i would say
just some are better than others

heres a a fish that was caught in downings when i was there
not by me though 750 lb tuna
i sneaked in when the captor was getting interviewed

spoke to my dad tonight potts he said to tell you if you are going to fish anywhere along the south east coast the best time to go is from october till january.he also said to ask you how many of you were thinking of going over cos he can probably sort you out with a deal for a trip out on a boat he said that the boat costs about 350 euros per day and will hold ten lads.anyting else you need to know he said he will do what he can to sort you out but he wanted to know where and when you were thinking of going

hi daren thanks for the post theres 4 of us thinking of going we just want to go shore fishing if your dad said it would be better in october we will probably come then. Also do you know how much it will cost for a weekend over there we wanted to go over to iceland but it seems to expensive all your help would be appreicated cheers stew

you can book flights from as little as a penny on ryanair .com i think a flight all together with tax is about 50 quid mate.the price of a pint is about 4 euros.accomadation can be a bit dear about 50 euros a night for bed and breakfast.i would say if your going for a weekend (depending on how much you drink :D )i would say 500 quid should cover it by the time you convert it mate you should get about 750 euros back.i dont know how much the ferry is but if your going fishing over there you will need a car and car hire is very expensive it cost me 550 euros for 10 days hire so it might pay you to get the ferry.bait is easy to come by cheap as well if you speak to the locals they will tell you where to dig.

Car plus two passengers on the Seacat from Holyhead is about £230. Priced up flights from N'cle - Stanstead and then Stanstead - Kerry last year for about £60 return but by the time you add on car hire and petrol the trip isn't much different. At least with a car you're not restricted on rods etc.
