is it worth giving a beach a shot tonight decent see running good swells would it be worth hitting the beach in search for a coddy?

thought anyone.

Always worth a shot when there is a northerly running. Would have been out myself if i didnt have things to do 2mrw.

In a word yes, I'm doing the family thing tonight otherwise I'd be out.
Only thing against you is the rubbish tide mate. Don't blame me if you don't catch though! :D

Bit late in the season now like but theres always the chance of that one elusive codling about, small beach produced the goods well last year in November/December time, no saying why it should throw out something again.

Either way, good luck, hope you find one or two coddies out there.

Just spent 5 hours at Blyth pier and came away fishless :(

Had several bites that I missed (all looked like small stuff) and the other guys on the pier weren't doing anything either.

One had a reasonable Whiting, not quite big enough to be a keeper but close.
The guy below me fishing the bend had two tiny codling, and when I say tiny, I mean tiny.

The two guys fishing the end hadn't touched a fish when I checked an hour or so before I left.

Going up to Craster/Dunstanburgh tomorrow to fish the rocks or the castle cliffs. Either that or I might do a dash to the west coast, fish the day, camp overnight, fish monday morning and have a slow drive back on monday evening.

Decisions, decisions...

my mate was out tonight and it sounds exactly the same result ..my thoughts was ...was he out too early sea just getting away or is that it ..well time will tell on other results elsewhere

Well ofcourse its worth it Sea Troot you never know whats behind those breakers and you just might hit lucky m8t good luck to you :D:D:D

Fished Dunstanburgh cliffs today for 6 hours or so.

I stayed high on the cliff and watched two guys float fishing (one might have been working a small lure) further down the rocks near the water's edge.

I used my usual tactic of not downsizing baits and gear for smaller fish - I'd rather target big even if it means not hitting a fish for several trips in a row. The bigger stuff is where it's at for me ;)

There were loads of small codling up to around a pound or so - they were hammering the crap out of the baits I was putting out for bigger fish.

Chunks of mackerel fillet on a 4/0 pennel rig intended for bigger prey still didn't keep the smaller fish away. I am reminded once more that a cod is basically a mouth with fins...

Made a nice change to be catching though, epsecially after yesterday's spectacular blank on the pier

Might fish west bay tomorrow morning over low water and see if I persuade a decent fish to stop and say hello.

Hope everyone who was out enjoyed their day :)

I can remember fishing Whitley Bay beach and West Bay in May and catching codling

If you look at my profile then my old fishing pics album, pic IMAG0221,
That haul was made on seaham north drum, on a flat calm night tide in the first week in august 1989. I had the pier to myself using lug tipped with squid I even caught a few mackerel on the ledgered bait!
When I ran out of lug I used some of the Mackerel and kept catching.

Right place right time.
