Jack Charltons Disabled Anglers Association, childrens day 27 june 2010.
Me and Andy arrived at sharpley around 9am, there we met up with davy, Gary, John, Ian,Old Bill and Paul Fenny, sat around the lodge with cups of coffee we chatted about how the day would go, what assistance we could give to the kids, chatted about what to do if it came to the point where there were any kids NOT catching etc etc etc.
We then started to set the pegs out, numbers 1-24 on the Albert and Alice, then numbers 15-37 on the Cuthbert. We were informed that each kiddie was allowed a maximum of 5 fish.
It all kicks off around 11am, everyone is using worm and a bubble float, so i walk around the lakes netting fish for kids and then killing them, the fish that is
.Then i get the idea into my head " what if they got no bags for the fish, so i go around all the lakes asking " do you have a bag for your fish" i get a lot of replies saying " No we never thought of that" so i went to the car and got a load of bags and distributed them around. Chatted to Andy for a while, Andy was looking after a young lad called James from Hendon, nice and pleasant lad, they werent having much luck, so they went onto the kiddies lake ( this lake is supposed to be a doddle, well let me tell you its not) there was already people fishing this lake and complaining about the lack of fish being caught/seen rising.Anyhow Andy manages to get the lad 2 before the end of the day.
As the fishing finishes the kids all go to the marquis with their fish for a weigh in, a young lad had a nice brownie of just under 5lb.
Jack gave away the prizes, medals etc, and also signed autographs for anyone who wanted it, he recieved a bottle of Glenmorange off Simon and Carol, We were thanked for taking part by Simon, Carol, Jack, the chairman of the charity committee, and also a councillor.
The weather was fantastic if not to hot for some of the children, but all the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did there parents/ carers.
After the proceedings were over we were invited to fish, so me and Andy started on the Albert, first cast i gets a take and misses it, Andy has 2 or 3 staright away with a " dawsons olive" I moved to the Hangmans for about 45 mins and only caught 1 about 1 1/2 lb, we then went for a cuppa then onto the Doxy where i caught another, Andy headed up to the Noose, dont think he got 1 there, i headed up the noose but got nowt.We went for a coffee, hadf a chat with Davy, Ian and Bill, Davy left followed by me and Andy.
A fantastic day had by all concerned, looking forward to next years now.
Let me just add, these kids were nothing like i had expected. They we all kind, loving, happy ORDINARY KIDS. God love em.
