Jeanneau Merry Fisher 585 Legende?

Just a quick post to see of anyone had heard much or had any experience with the merry fisher 585? I have been looking at the end of season deals going on them at the minute and on the huge plus side they would keep us under the magical 6 metre length overall so still on the budget berth at Amble Marina! The boat also looks to give us an enclosed wheelhouse which is on my wish list, integral fuel tank, a couple of bunks and seating for three in the wheelhouse! All for a LOA of 5.49m! I would like to get a good look over one but the closest one for sale to us I can see is in Belfast!

I've got the M/F 635 and can vouch for the build quality :), you buying new or used Graham.......There's one in Sunderland Marina and the lad posts on here, cant recall his name......
 
The merry fisher looks great, I haven't heard a negative comment about them as of yet and if the lad posts on here a look around his 585 would be great and to see if he has any issues, posotive and negative with them. We had settled on keeping growler another season but I have got too much time on my hands at work and started the whole new boat search again!
Have you got any info who the marina it is up for sale with and how much? It seem like a licence to print money! It would be great going to work there every day as oposed to six week trips away!

Sorry Jester, it would prob be a new one with the prices avaliable at the minute but I wouldn't rule out secondhand.

Yer they seem a canny boat, mine is 5.85m so i am ok for the budge ones also.

Some canny deals going but not a great lot second hand at the moment.
 
I have just bought a 585 marlin with the premier pack and the aft closing for the wheel house

and down one side its walk around for the front seat and for anchoring

a true performer and with a 90 hp motor it should cruise at 20knots and top out at 30

and as had been said else where it does for the size kick lots of others in the teeth and i have had mine for less than a warrior 175 and that includes a brand new 6hp fourstroke auxhillary


if you want to know more about where from etc etc just pm as it took me over 6 months to hammer my deal out

After more head scratching a beneteau antares 580( I think thats the model) has now found it's way onto the posibile list! Has any-one any experience of these? Looking at the hull, it looks exactly the same as the merryfisher 585 with the only difference being the cabin. I think the 585 Marlin has been put out of the reckoning as we are settled on an enclosed wheelhouse and prepared to make the sacrifice in fishing space for the extra comforts of the stove and sink, must be getting old! The merry fisher 595 is a big chunk more expensive!
The list is now down to two boats, either the 585 legende with the enclosed wheelhouse or the beneteau 580. Both will be with the evinrude e tec 90 on the back due to the 300 hour or three year servicing period. This will save buying a trailer and the costs associated with storing/maintaining it! A lift out every two years to clean and polish should hopefuly suffice.
Worst case scenario is we stick with Growler for another season, I am home in three weeks so a trip to Cambrian boats in planned as soon as I get back.

I think the 585 legend and the beneteau 580 are the same boat with slightly different finishes Graham , jeanneau and beneteau use the same hulls for their boats I'm told. Either will be as good as the other.
I looked into all these boats when I was searching , the sub 6mtr boats come down to the two you are looking at, the orkney pilothouse 20 and the quicksilver 580 if you want an enclosed cabin and a bit of speed.
I've done the same as you are thinking about and foregone a bit (a lot :() of fishing space for a bit (a lot ;) ) more comfort aboard with my choice (the wifes choice :rolleyes: ) in the 645 , but I fish alone most of the time so hopefully I won't regret my decision.
I'm having my boat coppercoated , so theoretically I'll never need to antifoul as long as I own the boat , just wash her down each time she's lifted for a service , it might be worth thinking about for yours?

The copper antifouling seems like a good plan Ray, what are the costs incurred like if you don't mind me asking? I know antifouling is a pain in the ar#e with the rubbing down beforehand and all the prep so if it lasted the life of the boat is would be worth it! Equally reducing the time the boat has to be out of the water.
The enclosed wheelhouse might also encourage us to try winter fishing/uptiding! We have been going to have a go for ages but I think I am just to soft!It is just the shore fishing dressed as Scott of the Antarctic! I think there are a couple of boats out of the marina that do it but I am not sure where they go or how they get on? I would imagine just anchoring up somewhere with patchy ground like the Northern hills and sitting it out there? Have you had a go Ray?
Back to work, the tuna are boiling all around us today, rainbow fish underneath them and the sharks underneath them, flat calm seas an 38 degrees! Just a shame fishing isn't allowed on this ship!:rolleyes:

I had a sneaky look out yesterday , caught a mackerel and a pollock :) , I was only out for a couple of hours drifting the wrecks , I am going to try uptiding , just need a better tide window than yesterday so I can have a full day out at it , where to go though is a puzzle , my first thought was around the Northern hill area , it's about the right depth for comfortable anchoring and there are places which are not too rough to snag everything up but still rough enough to attract fish ????
I think coppercoat costs about double what ordinary antifoul would cost , but if you are buying a new boat just add it on to the list of extras you want for free when you are negotiating the deal :D....... no , really , I'm sure Robin at Cambrian will do you coppercoat on a new boat at a sensible price , or any other dealer selling a new boat ;)
I think there's quite a bit of leeway in their pricing and even if you pay full price for it , it's going to be ten years before you need to do it again so it will work out cheaper in the long run.

aye ray,well done on the mackerel and pollack:),your probs not far wrong with your thoughts on the northern hills. as its a new venture will be quite a bit of trial and error:confused: i think jeff (warlord)is thinking of giving it a go when the work on the boat is done:)
 
You really should try the uptiding, i look on it as a chilled out type of boat fishing compared to the non stop jigging in the summer months. Clean ground or rough ground both seem to do well, but if fishing the rough stuff use a weak link on the anchor......And having an eclosed cabin is a bonus....:)
