just read this on another site

as a bit of a side line to the debate, in have just come back in from a long walk on the beach, not northeast but wirral in the northwest, not only have the bait beds been decimated but there was loads of chinese pulling 5 gallon containers and digging out razors and clams, in total there must have been 30 of them, the fisheries guy was there on his quad and cant do a thing about how much is taken as long as they are saying that the razors and clams are for thier consumption and they are not selling them, speaking to a guy local he said that every decent tide they decend on the beach and take what they can, no way could what they are taking be for personal consumption yet nothing can be done about it, no doubt this is something thats country wide and again greed will be the downfall of the bait beds

This is an example of what I am talking about. At the moment the SFC's would take two years to do anything about this ..under the proposed system the sfc could bring in a temporary rule to ban or regulate this until an impact assesment could be made .. Personally I would shoot them all :D

Cheers
Dave

Personally I would shoot them all

dont give me ideas :D

though i would think a concerted tyre slashing could make the venture unprofitable - god what am i doing thinking like this :red:

back to reality, personally i feel that if the govenment/defra etc made more than token remarks and actually got off thier backsides and did something and whilst at it stopped being railroaded by the commercial anglers then possibly there could be a general movement towards acceptance on licience, again to harp back to the min bass size which should be larger, however the biggest problem that affects the british is the " it wont happen" syndrome, they will happily drive thier heads in the sand untill something happens and they get their balls kicked in, then complain and scream, by then however its too late, also there is the attitude of " aww i cant be arsed, let someone else do all the shouting", you only have to look at the fuel protests to see this, yeah every one moans about fuel costs, initially eveyone supported the protesters, then when fuel was not getting to the pumps the support died away, the french would have blockaded the ports and caused absolute standstills, wait and see what happens when the french trawlers get told to do one from our waters if it all comes to happen, but funding, there are a lot of industries making a fair profit from us sea anglers, perhaps its about time that they got involved, if we go down they follow soon after, we need to ALL be behind a common banner to be heard thats a fact, but its a fact that wont probably happen, we should have backed the countryside allience, we need the maggot drowners ( yes i am also one) on our side and also the game anglers, individually we will get picked off, dont forget that the raving anti dickheads want us to stop fishing, it would not supprise me to find them throwing all sorts of spanners into the works, they have some heavy funding as well

Treeboa ,
Once again some good points but I feel I must point out the reason why this white paper actually exists.

Most would agree that fish stocks for a lot of species are at critical level due to overfishing. The government commisioned a report on the state of our seas called the "Net Benifits Report". This highlighted several areas where there was potential for major changes. This was followed by the Prime ministers response which effectively supported everything that was brought up in the net benifits report.

The white paper is a follow up of proposals to help increase our stocks and is looking from responses from stakeholders. Just one paragraph in a document totalling nearly 200 pages has caused uproar wihin the angling community and has finally spurred people into action..but their comments are based solely on what they read here which are comments on only a tiny proportion of the whole document. The purpose of the document is to increase the amount of fish in our seas and Defra are looking for responses from stakeholders with their comments. Its not a new law its a discussion document with proposals to update a 200 year old system for the benifit of the fish stocks in our seas.

Surely more fish in the sea = more fish for RSA's..perhaps we may have to catch and release once limits are reached but personally I concentrate on the first part of that statement...the catch bit...then the release bit comes later if appropriate. People who have fished with me will know I already release most of what I catch..Easter weekend I caught 1070 lb and it all went back, but have no objection to someone wanting to keep a few for the pot when its an edible species.

We all have an opportunity to comment on the proposals within the white paper and replies should be in by June 8th. Responses are accepted from both individuals and organisations so please feel free to voice your opinion where it matters.

I am not too good at links and stuff but I know a man who is and he will hopefully post links to the relevant documents and where replies should be sent to.

Its a brave person who sits down and reads all of the relevant documents cover to cover, but it is worth doing if you believe in the future of your sport because you will at least understand the whole picture and see that anglers have far less to worry about in the proposals made in the white than commercials or dredgers.

A lot of anglers have said they would pack in rather than pay a license fee...lets pray a whole load of commercials have the same attitude ;)

Cheers
Dave

Including a bit on licensing (a fair way down under the heading "Sharing the Cost of Science and Fisheries Management")

They don't actually say 'sea angling rod licence' in a lot of these consultations, but that's what they mean! Watch out for that.

(We'll be doing a response to the Marine Bill White paper in May)
