Just wondering if anyone had any advice or tips on this? Suppose to be heading out for the first time on Friday and was just looking for any marks, baits to use or just anything that maybe useful info.

Cheers,

Jamie

There are a few sites for kayaks,Its a sport im wanting to get into as well just busy looking for a yak bought one on ebay but deal fell through ,be careful lads,:):) fridays forcast looks good

all depends where u's r heading out from???
u can get anywhere in the yaks my m8 had a double yak & we went out all over & had bags 40-70lb in a single sesh.
ther r some wrecks close in that u can get on that do sometimes hold fish only most of these wrecks only fish bait, crab on some & only mussel on others.
if u'r yak is set up with everything then u will have-g.p.s, fishfinder, depth sounder & most imortant-h.f radio, life vest & flares.
if after cod then just a simple rotton bottom pully rig, patonoster rig or a ledger rig.
baits this time of year crab fresh or frozen & mussel.if u can get some softies these did tend to get the bigger cod on our sesh,es good luck lads.

plenty of us go out from shields and whitley bay.go on anglersafloat.co.uk or kayakfishinguk.net could always try one of our yaks before you buy:)

Stew,

Keep an eye on anglersafloat on the lets meet section..the lads up here regularly post their trips and no one minds anyone else turning up..the more the merrier and safer.

I use 18lb mainline and end tackle is a two hook flapper rig off the bottom just as you would use on the boats....dont be tempted to go heavy to save losing gear as if you snag you will not get your gear to break free and will probably end up going for a swim.

I sometime suse the 6 hook daylights as well and just cut them in half.

Shads have been doing well but just try a few different methods and see what catches...

I would suggest getting about on a local still water or river just to get the hang of the yak as in a swell you need to feel comfortable with the balance and knowledge that you are not going to fall off...try a few self rescues in shallow water to make sure you can get back on if you fall off....its easier than you think.

Have fun and stay safe

Steve

Trying to get back in to kayaking. I used to do it loads so if you want someone to go out with just pm me. I will probably just kayak and not fish the first few times but I don't mind being there for safety.

Might be out Wednesday morning if thats any good?....probably launch at Blyth near the chip shop...watch anglersafloat for times etc....might see you there.

Hi,thanks for that.I would of tackled up heavy but what you say makes sense. Its what i would do for shore fishing but i will have to change the way i think about tackle for a kayak.Got my lad & myself on a few pool sessions in blyth pool to be safe, cant wait to get out there, fishing from the shore is dead not like it used to be.
Cheers m8

check anglerafloat, might be getting out thursday teatime from whitley bay.keep on checking my post on the lets meet section.always weather depending:)

Some good advice from stevie re- practice and confidence before stretching your limits,as you have allready taken onboard [excuse the pun ] and sensibly booked some lessons .The Blyth kayak club are an excellent group of people and yous will benefit from the experience/training .As for the fishing side of the equation, meeting and talking to the local lads who are extremely helpful and accomodating especially with a view to safety, will put you on the right track .What you dont want is to rush into a fishing session unprepared and have a bad experience which could put you off what is a fantastic passtime, i have seen it happen before. Dont hesitate if you need help on any aspect of kayak fishing,if i dont have the answer i will find it ,all the best............Dave.

Kayak Hire

Kayak Hire

This is a link for my mate Ians place on Prudhoe Street:
North East Canoe Kayak and Adventure

I think most of his s.o.t.'s are fitted for angling. They're certainly top quality kit and if you check out this:
North East Canoe Kayak and Adventure - Grand Opening

you'll be able to see some of the boats he's got on offer. :)

By the way I'm "Rancid Badger" over there:rolleyes:

I reckon it's an ideal set up for anyone fancying a sot for fishing or just paddling,as already suggested: "try before you buy" he's got a few inflatable boat carrier things as well so you don't even need a roof rack fitted.

If a few lads got together, you could hire a different boat each and swap around to get the feel of the different sizes etc.

The 4 I paddled were all very good but I decided to go with a Perception Freedom for my first boat, with a view to learning the ropes.
Then maybe next year, upgrading to either a shakespeare 145/Emotion grand slam or possibly an Ocean Kayak of some description( need to paddle a few OK's first)

If anyone does fancy a group booking/test paddle or whatever; give me a shout, as I'd love to join you. I've not yet had the chance to get out for my first salt water trip with the Freedom yet so getting out with a group would be great:red:

Oh! He's going to be selling these boats as well ( hopes to anyway) ;)

hope this has been helpful

cheers
