Kayaker missing...

This is not a silly joke but could a shark played apart?

I cant see how he could not get back up as the tide is strong yes but not that bad to spot a young man making it up and also why just him went under and not his gear.

Anyway sad news once again..was he a fisherman or just a kayker

very sad news indeed my brother was listening to his vhf last night and heard the search my prayers go out to his familly and friends just goes to show the sea can be just as dangerous even on a flat sea there is alot of gullies next to spiles a very sad story

very sad / reports saying he had a white t shirt on
no mention of pfd /wet suit / dry suit
just shows how much you need the safety equipment thoughts with the family jeff

latest off the news is that the bad news is the lad in question had been drinking whisky before going to sea combined with no lifejacket or wet/dry suit on, this statement was given by a family member whom was there at the time during this tradgedy, deepest sympathy to all concerned r.i.p.

yes it is sad, but by his stupidity and his families for not stopping him, he has caused a great deal of heartache, would imagine he has just tipped over and gone straight to the bottom, as cold water and alcohol do not go well together. And just think if a rescuer had been injured or even worse trying to find him. GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR

Very sad news indeed, the sea is not a place to be taken lightly, i think anyone who is thinking about using a kayak should undertake training in a controlled enviroment before venturing out. I watched an instructor at sunderland marina teaching people how to right a kayak after a roll, and it looked pretty scary to me....

it's like everything once you get the hang of it, it is easy, yes everybody that ventures onto the water by whatever means, boat, yak, jet ski (should be banned) should all be forced to take a course and a test.

get a life jacket and some experience anyone wishing to even venture out in such small crafts like alan says alcohol and the sea doesnt mix at all whatever type of fishing my thoughts go out to hes loved ones

Yes it's sad news that he has lost his life but he has and others like him can give us yak fishermen a bad name.
Yes the sport has risks as with most things in life but if you have the correct safety gear and know what you are doing, have knowledge of the sea, tides, monitor weather forecasts it is fairly safe and even more so when you go out in numbers as we do.
The kayaks we use are called sit on tops so no need to do eskimo rolls, if you fall off you get back on by re entry which we practice in the sea often so you know that if it does happen you will be ok.

I was amazed when I heard they had no gear, pfd or lifejackets and he had been DRINKING, I mean WTF! Disaster waiting to happen
Water temps are still down around about 6-7 deg so as Alan says probably cold water shock and alcohol will have done it

if you mean the gentleman in the bible he was not as squeaky clean as he is made out to be, remeber what went into the bible was at the time the religious leaders thought they agreed with, many books etc by other profits where dumped on the floor. And their is also his missing years, which now looks as if he was studying at various Uni's on theology etc, of course they wouldn't do then what young lads do today. And far from being a carpenters son, it looks as if he came from a very wealthy family. Sadly I do watch a lot of National Geo and History propgs, better than mindless football, Eastenders, Corrie and other trash like that.

And in my post i do not say those who did not know he was drinking and not wearing the proper kit should not be shown sysmpathy, what i pointed out was it was his selfless stupity that put these people in that position, all my sympatht certainly goes out to them, but those who knew he had been drinking etc should also take some of the balme. No further comment will be made by me on the sublect.

PS it could quite well of been my son who got hurt or worse looking for him, as has happened in the past.

Seen this on the news & when they said no safety gear & alcohol i automatically blamed the people he was with (also him for geting in the kayak) but they should of stopped him!

Been into kayaking since i was a nipper (6-8yr old) & even now, with over 20 years experience would not even consider taking the risk of going on the pond in Mowbray Park, nevermind out to sea without a life jacket!

Must be a very bad time for the famillies, RIP x
