Lazy Daze Friday catch report

After working at new address Knocking walls down and converting the out house with sink, water etc; for all fishing related things for the last consecutive 9 days, I had some bait, IE; lug and rag starting to look sorry for itself in the fridge, so decided to down tools :p and have a session by the yellow can off Whitley at anchor as the tides are strong at the moment. It was a late start at 10-30am, but timed just as the wind dropped to about 5mph. Arrived at the can and chucked the anchor out, and the boat swung immediately round in the tide. The first rod in was baited with rag, and as soon as it hit bottom, a thumping bite which turned out to be the first of many wrasse caught throughout the session.
Next rod went in and again just a few seconds and was into a canny tussle in the strong tide, :eek:thought this is a descent fish, but it turned out to be a double header of 3lbers:cool:

I also had some fresh peeler, Fresh being the operative word, which i could hardly stand the smell of, talk about cod will eat anything, the truth is, they will. The rod banged over within a couple of minutes, and another cod about 3lb was the result.

After a short while, I had nine keepers with wrasse, pouting, coalies aplenty going back in.
All good things come to an end, as soon as the tide eased, the bites did too.
Ended up with 11 keepers,

so, at 2pm called it a day, a very enjoyable day, much better than beavering away in the now........utility room. The wife insists, that's what it's called now:rolleyes:
Sunday looks like light winds up to now, so mabe get another sesh then when the tides arn't so strong.

P.S. As I pulled up at my drive, I noticed a cop car pulling up along side of me, and he motioned me to drop my window down. His words were, Do you know that your fishing line is way back down the street, so i got out the car, and sure enough, the line from my spinning reel was down to the corner about 50 yds, so I took the rod from the upright socket and started walking and reeling in the line down to the corner, then around the corner and another 120 yds to the next corner, passing a bloke walking his dog,me still wearing my waders and still reeling, god knows what he thought. Got to the next corner, and there 30yds into the top of a tree was my mackerel lure and feathers. Tried pulling, only to loose them in the branches. Never mind, once the leaves drop off, they should glisten in the sun or the street lights in the winter.

Think it might be more than one weekend Chris, there's always something you'll want to change.
Have a look at my edited report, something I had to add.

:D:D:D:D:D Arthur thats the best laugh i've had in ages, it's been said on here that you will catch fish anywhere, but i think up trees is pushing it a bit, your great post just turned out to be brilliant..:D;)

:D Won't catch many mackerel up trees Arthur  , How do you fish at anchor ?, I've never tried it , but with the colder weather coming it's something I'm thinking about doing . I've read about uptiding , is this what you are doing or just fishing as you would on the drift but letting the tide take the baits downtide?
Nice catch by the way ;)

Hi Ray, I assume you've already got an anchor. Not sure what size boat you've got but, the first thing to do is to "trip" the anchor, that means, fasten your chain to the head of the anchor with a "D" shackle, then fasten a cable tie to the other end of the anchor, so that will snap when you decide to pull it in and lessen the risk of loosing it if you're over hard ground.
I fish a two hook flowing trace rig straight down from the transom with the lead just bouncing off the bottom, occasionally lifting to entice a bite, lug being my preferred bait.
Once the bites slow down, or the fish are getting smaller, up anchor and move a hundred yards or so and start again.

Sounds like a nice way to fish , I'll have to give it a go , cheers ;)

Nice report, pics and a very amusing read.:)
You ever thought about getting a sat nav instead of leaving a trail of fishing line back to the coast :D
