only have a handful of reports of lemon sole being caught over many years, they mostly have been taken from Seaham pier and area.

cheers alan , so it's a proper species of flat fish, how big are they and are they round like a flounder, or oblong shaped like a dover sole , and by what you said they are quite rare round our coast

they are roundish but they have bigger shoulders than a flounder and they look as if they have frills on the shoulder, often coulourfully speckled, with a smooth slimy skin with no lumps of bumps anywhere and a slightly curved lateral line.
On another point there is no such thing as a Dover Sole, the so called dover sole is just a common sole. The name came about when restaurants wanted to charge more and they all used to buy their sole from Dover, hence dover sole. So next time you go to a restaurant say the dover sole is to expensive I will just have a common sole.

Got a big sole off a lad I knew who used to run a trawler out of Blyth a long time ago, they were picking up a fair whack of them in the nets but you're talking a long, long, long way out.

no such thing as a Dover Sole, they are all common soles, they get called that because they are caught off Dover, bet some come from elsewhere and restaurants charge you more for a fancy name
