Mark......Being a Man Utd fan surrounded by a family full of Toon fans I am still led to believe that the greatest achievement Newcastle have ever claimed is the fact that they ONCE beat us by several goals. Nothing to do with the trophies the toon have won....just this one result.
My personal opinion of this season is that it just goes to show that Chelsea can spend all their millions buying all the best talent, wether it's to actually play or just prevent the opposition buying them, but with shear guts and determination you can overcome these overwhelming odds to show they aren't quite that 'Special' after all.
Good luck to Liverpool in the European cup, Good luck to any club prepared to challenge Roman Abrahamovic for the title next season, wether it's us, Liverpool or Arsenal and well done and good luck to Sunderland. You've got someone in charge from the top (Niall Quinn) to the Manager who care passionately about the people they are paid to represent (the fans) who also instill that passion into their players.
Unlike Freddiestein who only cares about his next pound. I feel sorry for Glenn Roeder as he is too nice a bloke to manage his so-called team. I can't call them players as I think it would be a slur under the trade descriptions act.

one thing that all north east clubs have got, that Man united or chelski could never ever buy is a proper fan base.
If man united were to slip out of the premiership would you still see 30 - 40,000 or more turn out for a home game, hmmnn, don't think so. I suspect we are befinning to see their dominance coming to end, they done well at the top for over 10 years, but get used to the fact it don't last forever. Be interesting to see just how many man U fans there are then
Wish I had a pound for every time one of the legions of fair weather man united supporters has banged on how the european cup is worthless cos the best team in the world is no longer in the competition (add fa cup, league etc for the same effect), then why did they get knoked out then??
one of my happiest days was a few years back. every season have a few daft bets at the beginning of the year. the mancs had just won the treble, routed spurs in the opening game of the new season, and Ladbrokes were offering 85-1 against the mancs winning nothing that year. had to be worth a tenner.
even though the bet was placed in newcastle, I took the ticket to ladbrokes in picaddilly, manchester to cash it in!

Lol.....Millions that like the 'Toon' were generated from the fans, merchandise etc, not some Billionaire that can throw £20 million on Top talent and then use them to keep the bench warm.
Sorry fan Base???????Remember when Newcastle were relegated and had average gates of 10-15000 every week not the 40,000 they have now.....Oh what short memories......Some.....Not all....Newcastle fans seem to have the short bloke syndrome where they shoot down anyone who questions them as the best in the North East....Instead of having a go at supporters of other teams all the time ...why don't you all channel your energy into doing something about the fact that you haven't won anything since the Vikings invaded the North!
Shame really that some Newcastle fans deserve to see their team taste success but will never see it until there are wholesale changes at the club!

you need to check you figures, I was at the first game keegan was in charge as manager, we were 2 points from the old 3rd division, and there were 36,000 there. I was at the game when we got relegated, there were over 28,000 there then.
I'm in no doubt that newcastle probably aren't the best team in the north east at the moment, in fact they are possibly not even the best team in newcastle!!
not having a go at other teams supporters either, I fully support anyone that is a true fan of the game. My problem is having a business and offices in Manchester, most of the Man United "fans" I have to listen to have never been to a game, have only been "fans" whilst they have enjoyed their success, and if quizzed about any aspect of the game, players backgrounds etc, haven't the first fecking idea what they are talking about, but still think the world of Football revolves solely around manchester cos their team win things.
Wonder how long it will be before the Glasers decide to do one leaving them with the £300 million debt they raised, in the clubs name to buy the club in the first place (how's that work then!)

According to this website average gates during the mid eighties to early nineties don't really show how well supported the team was during this period.
Obviously living or working in an area close to where the local football team is you are going to face stick from the 'home' team supporters.....Just like I have done all my life.....My brother in law works at Nissan and gets stick because he doesn't support Sunderland....He doesn't have a chip on his shoulder tho and is happy to see them promoted back to the premiership.
My mother, a pensioner on the bread line touching 70 goes to EVERY Toon home game (travelling 30 odd miles to get there and the same back)She regularly drinks with 'the lads' in the Black Bull when she goes down and truly has black and white in her blood.Until recently she used to do a lot of the away games also. She does the lucky 7's every week (which I pay into also to help her out) to get her season ticket. She has given me stick since being little about the team I chose to follow.....and like wise I've had banter with her back.
But do you know what I don't mind coz to me 'she' is a supporter, unlike the majority of Newcastle 'supporters' I know who like the ones you know who live in Manchester have only ever seen their team on the telly!
As for the clubs finances....well that is above my head but, like any business if someone pulls out, there is always someone else who sees an opportunity to come and steer the ship on a steady course!
