problem with a collapsible drop net Alan is when it's windy or a rough sea its difficult to get your net near the fish, with this method it follows your main line down direct, straight to the fish no matter what the weather conditions are .
stick a couple of sinkers/rock in the bottom

I cant see a drop net being any good by your self to hang over the edge of somewere when the sea is away that pirk idea is a very good idea. Can be used on cliffs to.

drop net with some weight in works great, tried and tested, big seas heavy wind etc.
I'm going to experiment with the sliding perk , but i'm not sure if would work with different rigs / end tackle, example not with a pennell pulley rig as I think it's going to hit the sinker before the fish? paulthespark said it would slide down and go inside big cod's gob, but it wouldnt get past the weight, it would be ok if it swung around and foul hooked it, but it can't go in its mouth with a pulley rig can it?
Anyway Ive got until winter to experiment... probably wont need it anyway....be easier not to use a pennell pulley! (or take me net...haha)

that's why I said put 4ft between the pirk and the clip the pirk won't get stuck on your sinker but the clip will

he's the man, and he actually tested the rods himself for hoisting nice cod before on market.
eliminator, ttr or excalibur range .
the excalibur tt takes some bending mind, but others in the range also which have more give in mid section.
best bet believe you me - join me on the pier

alreet dean might take you up on offer on the pier out of rods you mention for me the lifting rod is eliminater not keen on fishing with them though as i found mind tip heavy but out of the century rods eliminater is best up here imho .

take some lifting a 16 pounder mate, i had a 14 pounder and a 12 pounder in the same session and i couldnt clean lift the fish , however i was fishing with 40 pound straight through and managed to drag them over the dock wall, i was using a 129 daiwa amorphous at the time more of a long range beach rod than a lifting tool i did clean lift one slightly over 10 pound of the sewer in the dock but it does take a lot of effort i was using a primo full tournament at the time , the next day i was lifting a 8 pounder in the same place about a 12 foot lift and the rod slipped and bounced while the fish was being lifted so what type of weight would that of created, my mate who was there with is wife at the time said in is opinion any other type of rod would of snapped and i agree with him and still landed the 8 pounder, richy d clean lifted a 9 pounder with his zzipy zeteque txl and i think they may be the best lifting rod out there just my opinion

thats what i am on about the daiwa 129 is this a better rod for lifting as opposed to a high carbon content type of rod.
i quite often look at a lt 14 as a good lifting rod as it has a more thro type action as opposed to say a dymic lt bullet which i used to find very steeley in the middle.

no the daiwa wasnt a good lifting rod but it was still a high carbon content rod,with phase taper design making it very forgiving as a casting , long range beach rod, would rather be using the bullet ,or zeteque for lifting big fish, they are a lot more powerfull imho, and i have owned them all .
