Just heard on the radio that the Gov. is looking to charge all pleasure boat owners 100 snots a year towards the running costs of the bouy system, lighthouses and other bits and pieces. Apparently up until now only the commercial fleets have paid but that apparently is unfair. The total cost is a lot less than 100 mill a year. So they must have cast their eyes around (Blunkett excepted) came to their senses and thought, let\'s go without a few of those lovely shiney missiles, or let\'s close a few tax loopholes (loophole my effing loophole) that allow the Murdoch\'s of this planet to pay no taxes in this country. Oh no, we\'ll ask pleasure boat owners, all of them to shell out. Some clever wee tosser knows that the country is not going to rally around a bunch of \"Snotty Yachties\" so it looks like the non-commercial boat owner is going to get stitched right up. I listened to some London type tosspot interviewing some people in a marina down South and was absolutely fuming. A few samples of his objective art.

\"If you\'ve got enough money to afford a boat, you can afford the extra ton\"
LMFAO at that one. If you\'ve shelled out the extra on a boat no matter how much then surely the normal boat owners budget is going to be a bit pushed for starters.

\"Car owners have to pay road tax\"
As far as I know the main beneficiaries of this safety system are the commercial fleet, bouys to pinpoint shipping channels, where pleasure boaters anglers etc. are meant to stay out of. As one of the respondents said it\'s like asking an old lady that uses a zebra crossing to pay road tax.

Commercial shipping makes money
It cost non-commercials to run their boats

The gross generalisation made about boat owners was disgusting (Radio 4 man me favourite)
What do yous think?

I\'ll be firing off a tirade to the beeb if I can find the complaint e-mail address, has anyone tried before? They bury it under so many links all but the most White Lightninged of concerned citizens give up.

after all that the only edit I had to make was to remove an extra \"eff\" off the last of :o

Now don\'t try put a gloss on it Ell, Its actually really fuckin shite.

apparently the white paper they want to include this little gem in includes a line about something called the \'Oxygen tax\', apparently its unfair on dead people that we get to use it. This largely fits in line with the governments \'spatial volume occupancy targets\' where in future if you\'re body mass causes any amount of oxygen to be excluded from the general confines of the \"UK plc\", you are to measured using archimedes principal. namely you will be submersed in a bucket of shite and the amount displaced by your presence will be measured and your tax code will decrease proportionately according to the volume of oxygen that is prevented from occuppying UK plc territory.

theres likely to be some confusion however as if you take less than 17minutes holiday abroad per annum, you can apply for a \'volume occupancy exemption certificate\' (256 page application form to be filled in triplicate and signed by the pope)

Rumours that government will soon be taxing the letter E based on annual usage were neither confirmed nor deined by ministers today. A spokesperson went on to say that whilst the taxing of the letter E cannot be ruled out altogether, it merely forms part of a broader government strategy aimed at optimum consanant usage, to support the minority letters of the alphabet.

One key factor of this policy is that any imported words or phrases will be imprisoned immediately (in the case of non EU words) and have there vowels replaced with a VVS (vowel voucher sytstem) where they will only be allowed limited access to UK based vowels from pre-determined words issued from nominated word centres.

Imported words from within the EU will however be entitled to a full listing in the Oxford English Dictionary immediately upon entry and if those words happen to incorporate the letter E, all taxes recieved for the use of said letter will then be given to the french, in order for them facilitate the sending of more surplus words to the UK

Genius Mark I salute you.

Very serious thread though.

They\'ll have slots in the side of lighthouses soon, pay as you go. Sign reads \"If you\'re close enough to pay the toll, you\'ve ran aground\"

Am I just 1/2 pi55ed ?? or does that make sense,,God forbid they will be taxing us on sha&&ing next ... not that it would cost me a lot.. sex wots that?? the number before 7 I think :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ell m8 you\'ve got some effing good craic.i know its a serious point as well ! :D

Is this a way of introducing a license scheme by the back door. How else would they keep track of the small boat users? Have you heard if it is going to be a personal tax or a tax per boat?

soz Ell I was not takink the pi55 there,, the GOV will tax your Bollox if they could...Thers loads of little tax breaks they could give us but no... hammer hammmer GIVE US GIVE US take take take.. thats all of them,,,Im not taking sides or parties..They ar all the same,, some one has to pay for the Gulf War. I recon it is the start of a licence system Chris, Shortly all boats will be displaying another badge on them, a one that says expires 200......

no problem tich, you take sides if you want as well, this is the NESA board, speak your brains. What\'s said on the forums stays here. When we meet up it\'s left behind for a while, until the rods get put away then the sabres might come out.

As far as tax goes, for that is the way, rightly or wrongly we pay collectively into the social pot. A couple of percent on the RICH would make a whole heap of difference on the POOR. The Labour party are shit scared of doing this. Why? Because they are a bunch of cunts pandering to whoever they \"Think\" is going to keep them in power for a few more years. I\'m no democrat or Parliamentarian, I\'m just a pisspoor angler lucky enough to be working (for now!) watching all of this rubbish unfold in front of me. And while I\'m on about it £2500 for not signing up to the ID card thing. Fight this thing every step of the way, it stinks!

Fully agree with you Willy, wasnt this the party that WERENT going to raise any taxes as part of their election promises. What happened to the LABOUR party anyway ?. This bunch of money grabbing t...s are about as popular as Ron Atkinson at the Notting Hill Carnival. Its o.k. saying vote the other way at the next election but there is NO POINT as we still get stuffed no matter who is in power.

Regards.

be intersting to see how this gets enforced.

coastguard patrols checking boats out on the water?? how much will that cost...
what about visiting yotties from accross the channel??

no hang on, it\'ll be a \'pubic private partnership\' (alright public then)

groups 4 will get a fat contract to fly around on a RIB hassling boat owners.

its just another method of control. Give em another 10 years we will all be fiorced to have our foreheads tatooed with bar codes and every lamppost in the country ill have a bar code scanner on it so they can monitor your movements

fight fight fight.

If ID cards come in I\'ll be the first one to track down blunkett and ram my id card up his guide dogs arse

but back to enforcing the lighthouse charges.... It has to mean boat registration as well, bet that\'ll cost money as well. Every boat will have to have a registered identity in order to have a badge or whatever applied to it. An I bet that the boat registration cost will be based on size - as british waterways board do with inland craft, so whilst you might initially think 100 quid for the lighthouse charge, add a few hundred more for a boat number plate. This will then be followed up by outlawing red deisel for pleasure craft

If the lighhouses still employed keepers, then maybe there\'s a little more reason to possibly have a charge, but no matter which way you look at it, this is no more than another way of raising money for tony and his cronies.

The thing that bothers me the most (having not realised that there was going to be a tax on the letter e) is having to change my name and not being able to talk to Ell. Willywotog and Oll do not have the same ring to them.

I\'m afraid that replacing E with O would cause you to suffer under the \'Vowel Directive\"

VD as it is also known, is the achilles heel of the plan, as unfortunately certain vowels suffer from transmision under social circumstances, unles the vowels are used with protection.

Protection is available from the \'Community Oriented National Department Of Misuse\'

who will issue you with the neccessary facilites. Failure to do so may mean remedial action is reuired at ward 43 of the General hospital in Newcastle

Well lads if the Labour party decides that they want us to pay a lighthouse charge they will no matter what we do or say because if Blair wants it he\'ll get it no matter what. :casstet: :casstet: :casstet:
Now to cheer myself up I\'m going digging bait in case the weather picks up a bit. :D :D :D :D

Hello Mark. Dont worry too much about how they are going to enforce it. I wouldnt imagine RAF BOULMER being involved because they are going the journey shortly.

Dont want to upset you boat anglers out there, but ninety percent of us would be paying £100 for something we know little about. Can anyone of you honestly say that you understand and know the whole buoyage system. From channel markers to warning markers to navigation, the different colours, shapes etc. The book i have is nearly half an inch thick. Mind i still think it is dispicable.
