Aye wood say 18lb

hi mate:)
anything from 15lb to 20lb as it holds better in the tide in my opinion than heavier line!
and a 60lb-70lb shocker about covers it mate!
or you can go down the straight threw route and put 30lb-40lb line on with no shocker!
i use 15lb-18lb mainline and 60lb shocker and i fish further up from you and ive had no bother at all mate:)

Get some Berkley XTS in 18lb (0.38mm diameter) - not too expensive and a very good line. I wouldn't go above 0.38 for the river - thicker lines catch more in the tide & make it harder to hold bottom - I usually use 0.35. You don't want to spend too much on line when you're learning (birds nests!) but you don't want cheap, wiry cr@p either! The Berkley stuff is spot on.

Gary :)

totally agree with g-force mate!
mind i use 18lb okuma ultramx for the river and its only £3.49 off ebay!!
you would think for that money it would be rubbish but its very supple and strong line at the same time im my opinion
a very good line ive had no bother at all with it!
saying that you cant go wrong with good old daiwa sensor!! it does no wrong that line:)

Under fill it with a softer line like tritanium, less line = higher spool speed, then your brakes will kick in harder, then when you get the hang of it you can fill it.
.35 is ideal, and always a shock leader of at least 60lb, lets face facts your gonna go for the big one out of total curiosity !!
