afternoon all.im wanting some advice on catching lobsters.i dont understand the v thing in the tail do all lobsters have these in the tails or are they put in when they cought if there smaller than 87mm.and is the measurment from the nose to the start of the tail.are we allowed to take both male & female lobsters.thanks dont want big fine

if there's a notch in the tail they must be put back. The notch gets put there by commercial potters mainly,my mates put them in any undersize ones they catch before they are put back, and in a lot of the females that are in size as well, takes about 5 years for the notch to grow out, so theoretically the thing is safe for 5 years.

Any berried females - ie full of eggs under the tail should be put back. Personally I'd put the females back regardless, and all the commercial guys I know do as well, notching them first

the 87mm length is measured from the tip of its nose to the end of the body where the tail starts, measured down its back
