Had to go out tonight as I blanked last night and my mate John F managed a nice 7lb 2 oz from Cullercoats. Last thing I told him at work today was that I was after my second doubler. Headed off down to the lobster potts near Sharpness Point at Tynemouth at 6pm. There was still a fair swell coming in. First five casts my bait came back , thought about having a move but decided one more cast. Loaded the hook with a nice forzen crab and three big smelly mussels. Ten minutes later a slack liner, wound up the slack then the same thing happened again, wound up the slack only to repeat again. At this stage I thought I had picked up some loose weed and then it bit. I struck straight in to it and pumped it in through the weed. As it came ashore it didn't quite make it on to the rock in front of me, the waves went back and I tried to lift the fish over the legde. Needless to say the hook straightened and the fish fell off but I managed to jump in up to my knee's and elbows and capture the fish. I weighed it in on my digital scales and it came out at 11.18lbs. I didn't have my camera with me so rang my wife who brought the camera down to the rocks and sent my daughter out to meet me and take my pictures. The good news for all of you out there still searching for your first doubler is that I successfully released this nice cod to fight another day and my daughter took a picture of this. I have sent the pictures on to Paul ( fishfinder ) so I hope he can post them on this site for me.
