Long or Short?

Do people prefer shorter or longer boat rods?

"Average" length always seems to be about 6.5ft long...but you can get 'em up to over 9ft

Now I'm talking rough ground/wrecking rods not uptiding here

Or are different lengths fit for differing purposes?

used an uptide North Western 30lb class rod for many years, for tope, wrecks etc, it must be going on for thirty year old now, when I first started using it everybody used to laugh as it bent over double when I had a good fish on and had some great fun, while they where using their broom shanks and huge winches to yank the fish out without much effort. For inshore fishing I used a little 12lb class rod, six foot long.

Being serious, I'm so used to my 7ft 20lb Ugly Stik owt else just doesn't feel right.

well the forecast has changed (again ) so at this point in time you may just get out this weekend

Got a Ron Tompson Accelorator you can lend it might as well be a boat rod its that stiff lol

I have 3 boat rods i use on a rotation basis one 7ft 6 12lb class, one 7ft 8 20lb class and one 9ft 15lb class rod.

I like the longer rods but everyone is different, also never use anything more than a 20lb class rod now as since landing 40lb and 30lb fish ont he 12lb class outfit i trust the gear more than i used to ages ago.

Sure the weather will improve soon for everyone.

8 meter boat rods

Iwas in plymouth a couple of years ago and was talking to a skipper and he told me that in competitions compeditors were using 8 meter boat rods that were available commercially - the idea was, as under the competition rules you were not allowed to cast from the boat, they used very long rods and swung the bait away from the boat, which could result in the equivalent of a 16 meter cast, because they were fishing "away from the boat" the catch rate was much better.

8 meters? 25ft?...sweet lordy that certainly is long

and they where prodably casting over the fish, I have found in over forty years of boat owning, getting bait away from the boat dosn't increase your chances of catching fish.
