Heading up to Lower Largo (Fife) for a few days next week, and I`m taking my spinning gear with me.

Does anyone know of anywhere local that I can do a bit of harbour fishing, or even spinning for mackies.

Venues, bait, best tides etc all needed.

Thanks lads

Tony

Lower Largo on Largo Bay is a fishing village, with its own harbour, renowned for its fresh lobster & sea food. its barely a 100yards walk from the castaway cottage or the seashell cottage, with plenty of sport. There is also a aquarium you could visit if the fish are not biting tony.

;) :D ;) :D you could also try the beach which is also a short walk...depending on where you are staying. ;) :D ;) :D

Tony if you are still after a RT there was a brand new one on ebay for around £70, but then after postage etc. . may be just as cheap as the ones in the shop

Tony you could try pittenweem breakwater for mackeral it has a bit of depth of the end,not much mind! most of the harbours on the fife coast are pretty shallow of the front.another place to try but its a bit of a run back towards the forth bridge is burntisland harbour/docks they used to get huge cod on floats there in days gone by, but there is a fair depth there so you might be lucky.
theres pollack of the eastern arm of anstruther harbour,a lad is claiming a new scottish shore record pollack just now with a 16lb fish from there.best fishing for them with a float though as its kelp city for the spinning. take a bottom rod and fish the rocks for wrasse and codling over low, theres plenty rocks to look under for crab.
its not my favourite bit of coast due to how shallow it is but i enjoyed my day out today (just going to post a catch report)
you can dig plenty lug at leven beach or elie beach,i dont know if there are any worm at largo.
if you fancy a chuck from the rocks pm me and i will give you a few marks.

Thanks for that, Gogs.

I was hoping you`d see the post and reply.

Unfortunately, there`s no room left for a big rod after our lass has got all her clobber in, so I`m limited to a spinning rod.

I`ll take plenty of jelly worms and try the kelp.....should be interesting on such light tackle.

Thanks again.

tony,

while you are there you should want to go for a pint and a nice feed my mate also called tony owns the \"upper largo hotel\" at the top of the hill about 1.5 miles away.

best food in fife...... well thats what he says ;)

look in the bar area and you will see a big picture on the wall of him with his PB skate, a paltry 167lb fish

photo by me on my boat,

infact i think gogs was fishing on andyb\'s boat that very same day and got his PB skate

correct me if i\'m wrong

This site never ceases to amaze me. Better info than Google EVERY time.
Keep it coming everyone.
Have a good break Tony will try to catch up with you again soon mate.

Jim.

Tony i forgot to mention fifeness for spinning as well, theres a good bit of tide there and i have had pollack on static baits meant for cod in the winter.
Les i was waiting for the advertisment for tony\'s gaff,i hope you have paid TC for the advertising ;)

and yes it was the same day i had my p/b skate 184lb which i wont beat as i wont be back for another shot, not my cup of tea old chap :o

Les meet me @ the pub tomorrow for your key and bring my rod tube i am going to need it soon :D

Methil is probably the best place for spinning for mackerel. I was down this morning - they were everywhere. Watch out for the seals though, there were five of them chasing everything I caught. I was fishing with a single dexter wedge so I could out-run the seals but the guy next to me had a set of lures and was hauling four at a time. We both lost gear to the seals, good fun though.....
