Myself and Dave arrived in Drummore around 9pm on Friday. We had talked about a couple of hours bass fishing but one sniff of the barmaids apron after the long drive scuppered that plan.

After launching we went on a maccy hunt but they didnt make it easy for us. We headed out to a tope mark, anchored up and after putting two tope baits down we continued fishing for maccy with light tackle and a few stragglers saved the day.

We fished for a while without any runs so headed across the bay to where Ian Burrett (nesa) was fishing with a party of anglers from the north east (hi lads) and Les (nesa) was anchored nearby fishing with his chef......I mean mate

The first tope wasn\'t long in coming aboard but was only a baba of about 4lb but put up a good fight as it had taken a feather baited with a strip of maccy that had been sent to the seabed joined to a light spinning rod.

Next came mama.......my first feel of a peed off tope and weighed in at about 25lb. It wasn\'t long before daddy was running off with Daves bait and ended up the best of six tope boated (3 each) and was 35lb.

My best fish of the day

This is IMO sea angling at it\'s very best

Ian Burrett http://www.seafishingscotland.co.uk/ and his party of three anglers had 19 fish (not sure of weights) and Les and his mate had 5 to 35lb

All fish returned unharmed (exceot the maccy lol)

I forgot to take my camera (doh) and Dave\'s took a knock but he managed to email me a couple

Sorry about not using photobucket Alan but I\'ll send u by email

BTW except for baba tope my others were on the rod I won at the nesa comp

Thanx again for a great day out dave, cant wait till the next time

Graham or Dave could you send me details of your trip, photos would be nice too. Did post this message earlier in week with another one, for some reason they have disappeared

Great report, can\'t wait for 2 weeks time as myself and Jeff are out on Ian Burretts boat :D

your not the only one who cant wait for 2 weeks tym lol

im counting the hours never mind days lol

Sounds great Oblickta.

I cannot wait to get up there. Ian Burret claims no-one blanks .....I haven\'t been up there on a boat yet...!!!

Davyred, (my driver and general bitch) is sure to give me a run for my money though...good shore fisherman....lots to learn on a boat.

Jeff.

Well done Graham!! Great report and fantastic piccys, especially of \"MARK\" LOL ;) Pleased you enjoyed it :D

Ian is just the man to learn from, he is 100% dedicated. Are u stayin all w/end or just a day?

hi graham,

nice to see you and dave again at drummore, even though you landed more than us...lol

we had some nice fish on the saturday but the sunday at the same mark wasn\'t as good with the fish not really wanting to play, we landed and lost a few and missed about 20 runs which the fish just gobbed the bait before you could set the hook.

my bitch and presonal chef tony with a fish on my light 12lb class rod and fixed spool reel with 14lb braid

jef and davyred, you\'ll have a great time with ian, reckons his average tope day sees 20 fish landed, i believe him as he was 200 yards from us and had 19 on a day of loads of runs but few hookups

Nice report Graham and Les.
Davyred...you should have a great time out with Ian. He knows his stuff. The plan for the days fishing was hatched over a few pints (ok more than a few) the night before. Three boats all going to different areas. As Graham said we really struggled for mackrel but with Ian and Les heading off across to their marks and a set of numbers from Ian in my gps ...we headed off into the bayto the mark nine miles out.
In the middle of the bay are two pinnacles of rock which our route took us right by. Needle sharp pinnacles rising perhaps 100 feet and covered in nesting birds. All around these were seals basking in the sun so we stopped off a while to try for mackrel and do the tourist bit with the video camera. No mackrel so it was out to our given mark and drop anchor ( thats the heavy bit of metal stored up front for those who never use one ;) )

The tide was just starting to run so it would take a bit of time for the fish to show. Over went two tope rods and Graham put some feathers on a spinning rod to try and top up the baits. This wasn\'t working so he baited the feathers to have a go for Gurnard but it only produced doggies.

Ian Burrett came on the radio to say their mark had produced two and it could be worth our while moving over to them. We decided to give it another half hour and move. This was the moment Graham hit into a fish on the \"feathers\" which gave a good account of itself on such light gear. This made the decision to move harder as the fish move in packs and we knew they were around, but this was soon answered when Ian came back on the radio saying get over there as they had had two more and dropped a couple. Up came the rods and anchor and a fast steam across a flat calm bay to anchor close to Ian and Les.

It didnt take long for the first fish and in all we had 6 and another 5 missed runs or dropped baits. Ideal weather conditions and good company...and a rareity for scotland with a shirts off day!

All too soon it was 4.30 and time for a 20+ knot run back to the launch point. Outboards sure use some fuel at that speed ...dont they Les ;)

If you have a trip booked with Ian there is a comprehensive list of recommended gear to take on his website www.onyermarks.co.uk . Dont forget wellies or waders as its all beach launching over there.

A good day out and cant wait till the next one...checking the diary I seem to be pretty full at the moment. Looking forward to the trip to LA with Stephen and Graham, lets hope its as succesfull as this one. Hope to get out over the weekend somewhere but not sure where yet.

Les...looking at that tope pic leads me to ask where exactly did you get those steaks from :)

I know who was squealing like a bitch at Port Logan last year Jeff, and it wasn\'t me :D

Granted, I\'ve got a bit to learn on a boat, but put me on top of those Pollack mate and we\'ll see what happens. :D

Dave

hi dave,

big motors were certainly thirsty on the sunday, my mate jason arsed 2 cans in the same distance as i did just over 1 (he has a 75hp 2 stroke mercury)

the sunday morning was as flat as ice and we belted off at my top cruising speed of 28mph cutting wakes and taking photos of each others boats.

thanks for the spare fuel BTW, when i was heading back in a lumpy sea i started to run dry on that tank just at the really scary bit with the whirlpools and overfalls, i thought tony was going to need the brown trousers on....lol

he thought the engine had conked when i stopped and ran to the back of the boat and started throwing tackle boxes and coolboxes all over the place to reach the other tank, a very lumpy bit of water made worse with wind over tide.

the steaks definitely came from a cow, not a tope, didn\'t you see the carcass on the way down the road??

Hi Jeff
My alledged claim that no one blanks refers to the Pollack fishing. The tope fishing is far more hit and miss :D :D

looks like youve had some canny trips oblickta. skate , tope , what next??
i also recognise that fish your mate has ,
i seen it a while back in a film called jaw
