Going "West Side" this weekend and pitching the tent in Luce Bay before roaming around the coastline...

What's Luce Bay itself like for fishing?

I know we are going quite early in the year, but it's going to serve as a recce if nowt else...

Any help/info appreciated

east or west tarbet on the mull or round barrow head and the isle of whithorn are your better shots around there wallsendo, luce bay itself is more known for its boat fishing although terally bay just past sandsend can be good at timesMull of Galloway, Fishing Marks

Tony try searching NESA for Mull trips etc we go each year and there should be some canny info ,we normally fish over from the lighthouse West Tarbett I think it is.

they are getting doggies etc around kirkcudbright,borgue area now so why go that far wallsendo, luce bay etc are better later in the summer,just a thought

I've had some really good sessions over at the Mull over the years and i normally visit from April onwards.I always thought that April was a little early but i have been very surprised to what is available then and the quality of the fish.Me and a mate fished down at Ardwell bay thats North of Port logan.Its a sandy beach flanked with a long headland and brocken rocks to the left.We just fished the beach in darkness at high tide and the different species we caught.Dogs LSD, Flounder, Dabs, Coalies, Grey Gurnard, Mackeral,Codling, Strap Conger and Bass.I couldn't get a 'can' to my lips for the bites and the majority of the fish all went size.I can guarantee fish at some marks and if the conditions are right pollack are a fish to target and i have yet to blank, fishing for these.3 years ago i went over to the Port logan area and i had better stamp and numbers of fish (20 fish to 7lb) in April then i had fishing in the later months i.e July - August.But i must admit it was a bit warmer then it is now..But if the weather is not in your favour alot of the marks are very slippery and dangerous.Plus it limits the places to go and the variety of fishing to be had in such an idealic place they don't call it 'Gods Country' for nothing. looking at the weather some of the rock marks might be a bit dodgy so i think an open mind is needed, if it dont look over cleaver head to portpatric or something

Luce bay is exactly where the gulf stream hits the uk. They never get frosts etc so the tiimings for the fish are different to just about anywhere else. For example on a boat trip there in mid November the car showed minus 3 degrees about 10 miles away but when we arrived it was 9 degrees...we caught tope and mackrel which isn't bad for that time of year.

Stick to the west side as this is where it has most influence.

You could try PM'ing snatcher as he has a caravan there and knows the early marks. Also the tackle shop at ardwell is a good source of info.

Take your climibing boots if you are fishing the mull itself, some of those cliffs look scary from the sea.

Sandhead...if all else fails, there's a beach in front of the campsite

Take Daves advice and drop Snatcher John a pm,i've never been over as early as this,normally late May or July/August time for me
The forecast is for showers so i would keep off the rocks
