Lure Challenge 2014

Anyone noticed that there aren't as many flounder about as there was a couple of months ago? Usually I can go straight out and get one on a lure but they seem to have buggered off somewhere as even on bait there aren't as many as usual.

Black minnows are highly rated for wrasse by a few people, not had one on mine yet though  Can only keep trying, but maybe because they aren't present in as great numbers as dahn sahf they don't have as much competition so maybe aren't as eager to hit lures.

I've never managed a wrasse of a SP , I've had them on Zens and daylights but nothing else, they seems to plenty being caught on SS Pier on the float

Late start for me but 3 from this afternoon...need to catchup big time....

I got soaked to the skin yesterday in the Irish Sea and it was made worse by the fact the Tope weren't around and hadn't been seen for a week or so. Even the Huss had disappeared. The LSD's were hammering baits and being a nuisance.
With a heavy heart I decided that although I find Cod boring they are better than nothing so I put on a shad and started to pick them up but they were just little things. After a while I reeled in what I thought was a codling when I first saw colour down in the water and actually gave it slack line in the hope it would unhook itself as they sometimes do but then my mate shouted gurnard which made me panic as now I wanted to land it lol.
Not a monster but a nice sized Tub Gurnard, it didn't save the day but it stopped it from being a complete disaster.

I expected a good day on the carp today but they weren't feeding, at least the bigger ones weren't. I did catch a koi carp on artificial corn which if nothing else was a good looking fish lol.

I haven't been able to do much fishing this summer and definitely haven't had the time to go species hunting. Still there's always next year, though that will be curtailed as I'm getting a Pointer pup which will need training.
Anyway I won't be doing any more fishing this year but I hope you lads finish the year well. As for me I've been out hunting for the last month and the hawk is ready to start again this weekend so I won't be bored lol.

Getting out when conditions are good is my problem at the moment. Was going to fish one rod on bait and have a dabble with my lrf rod yesterday but it was way too windy to control anything on the pier, 6mph wind my hoop! More like 16+. Things aren't like normal either, there is still a distinct lack of flounder and whiting that are normally easy to get on lures where I fish

I had a two week fishing holiday in Fuerteventura ruined by freakish weather and the two days I went out after Tope were a wash out. I heard the seas have been a bit rough this summer even though we have experienced a long dry spell on land.

We'll that's it for another year lads, unless we get any last minute entries in the next 3.hour. Well done to everyone who took part and conditions to Pointer coming first will a cracking 14 species on his first year of entering. Also to Nathan in second place with 13, an impressive jump from 4 last year. I managed to roll in at 3rd with 12, 2 species less than I managed last year, as my school report always read 'could do better if he applied him self' lol.

Look forward to next year, as ever we will be reviewing the rules to try and keep everyone happy.
