If you are going to go further up the pier remember that the gate is locked due to the ongoing works so you will have to climb around.

looks like i will be only fishing upto the gate then as he wont climb around i know for sure lol

either that or fish roker whats that fishing like for the macky ??

The mackerel fishing on the pier was patchy today while I was there 9.00-1.00,just coming in ones and twos.
I only got 2 all the time I was there, don't know if it picked up later on.

that would do him hes only ever caught small coarse fish like gudgeon and tiny roach so even 1 or 2 macky would put a smile on his face even more if he did get a few and took them home to his grandad :D:D

Hi mate, it's an easy climb up the wall and youngun will love the excitement of it I know my lad did the first time I took him on early. The best time I would say is the earliest you can go, I know they were catching macky from the slab, (100 yard or so stretch to the first gate) last week from 5am ish onwards.

As already said the blocks onwards towards the end and south east corner and the small wall when there in are good spots, but they move around all the time so know 2 days are the same. Good luck mate and I hope the lad catches a bag load, it's a delight watching them pulling em up.

Officially shut to the public but the team doing the work are ok with the fishing as long as you keep away from where they are working afaik.
Seemed a canny bunch of lads.
South Shields I mean. Roker totally shut.

If your going to fish before the gate then make sure you go when the tide is coming in so that theres not much dirty river water where you are as the mackeral wont usually go into the dirty water and it makes it easier to get the fish over the rocks at the pier base when theres water there. Even if the mackeral are not there he may well get some coalies.

Zippi, I would take him to the end of the pier and let him fish from the small wall on the left hand side at the end, casting inbetween the two piers.... plenty of Mackerel get caught there but it is normally spot on for Coalies too so it will keep the young'un entertained!
