Thanks lads, does that match trick really work,? I'll have to try that one. Yeah I think once I figure out how to do one I should be fine, typical that the blow torch I had was broken lol, got a new one and ready to go again weather permitting.

Use a steel teapot for melting your lead, they can be bought from most shops for about a fiver, saves messing on with a ladle as the lead pours from the spout, I've been using this method for years and is quicker and safer.

No mate, it was for heating the mould hole up, I think it'll pour fine when I do that. It was just my lick that the torch wouldn't work when I had perfect weather and was out the back doing it lol, I had everything ready aswell.

Nice one Davy, do you have the tea pot lid closed aswell mate, sounds a better idea than the pan and ladle, gonna cost me a fiver for a ladle as the missus isn't parting with any from the kitchen ha.

good advice dave and lead melts quicker,should be able to pick up a second hand one from shields market or any car booter for 50 pence or a pound at most. davy.

Cut the teapot lid off and when teapot is hot squash the spout narrower at the tip end of the spout about 1cm so it slows the pouring of the lead, for when you are doing small size weights. Chris

I successfully made a couple of leads today, I do have some questions though. The amount of cr@p that came out of the lead seemed more than the lead itself, is this normal.? The cr@p from the lead would block the pouring hole making it a faf on to pour clean, the lead was from used lead flashing.

Would clean new lead give off as much cr@p waste.?

Its not the best but I will get there.

catch the floating crap off the top with a spoon etc , before you pour the lead out.

As said skim the ****e off top of lead wiv dry spoon its called slag its al the crap in the lead muck n dust oils. Dont worry its nowt nearly all lead has it just learn to skim it off pal

Most lead has it old lead has tones of it clean lead has much less. Just have to skim it off the top

Thanks mate, thought as much like, I'll buy clean lead next time, there's more waste than lead with salvaged lead flashing.

I have just got my self 4 big pots willing to sell 2 they will do nice for melting the lead down they all have spouts on as well, looks like they were old tea and coffee pots will be happy to deal or £5 each.
