melting lead

I use a camping stove, one of the low flat ones which are nice and stable. It connects to a refillable butane cylinder and is helped by a blow-torch to speed things up.
I like the look of the propane burners the roofers use but they’re too pricey.

camping gas stoves are the best argos clearance at stanley had them on sale last week for 15 quid connct it to a 12kg propane(red) bottle as ya get more heat from a propane

thanks lads think ill try and get my hands on one of those burners in the pic it looks like one the roofers use!!! i want to melt the lead fast ive tried a camping stove it took forever im planning on making coupleof hundred weights jiggers etc

the double burner stoves are spot on mate the trick is you have 2 pans on the go so you can pour one while the other is melting etc another tip is i use 100 percent wool as a glove because you cant get a glove that can cope with the temps the mould get to when you have poured 20 or so

Just get lots of moulds so you can rotate them and let them cool ;)

There's a 12oz DCA bopedo on fleabay at present that I haven't bought......yet...lol

Them do-it moulds look canny Keith, with hinges and handles. What's the one in your pic make ?
Had a nosy on eBay, theyre not cheap.

It's a Do-it 8oz & 10oz cannonball, think I paid about £35 for it.

I got it in to my head they'd be better when rigged with shads, not sure why.

Been using 10oz cannon ball leads last year, with the shads, no bother with them.
Was surprised at how small they look, compared to a bopedo type.

I made a box shape using 2" steel mesh about 10" square. Put the pan, a steel one as alloy ones melt using a propane gas torch, point the flame straight at lead till it's melted, then put torch under pan on low fame and start making leads.

I use 2 portable camping stoves in the garden mate ,really cheap 2 from asda for £20 gas bottles £10 for 10 .last ages ,i make approx 40 at a time for boat ,and about 30 . 5 oz for shore.and still have bottles left .

i use a bullfunch burner melts the lead super fast
