As it happens I work right next door to the Glasgow Chinatown.... And (as you might guess from the nickname) have some close associations with the community...
Trouble is I live 40 miles away. I can get squid for about £1 ..odds a pound. But by the time I\'d get it home it would have thawed. Some of the \'unfrozen\' (I\'ll not speculate that it\'s fresh!) stuff I can obtain is possible. But again transporting it home can be problematic.
There is even a Chinese fishmonger next to the college I work in. He\'s not bad, one of the few places I\'d trust the stuff to be fresh, but shuts mid-afternoon so by the time I\'m headed up the road..... I daresay my colleagues would be a trifle freaked if I started filling up the woefully inadequate staffroom fridge with bait
Easy answer Lao - take a coolbox witha few frozen ice blocks when you go bait shopping. Once the bait is in there don\'t be tempted to open the box again and it\'ll last for hours. I\'ve taken frozen bait on 200 mile round trips this way and it stays frozen.
I\'m out the door here at 6:45am ..... Don\'t finish \'till at least 4pm often later so it\'s usually 6 before I\'m home.... Maybe in the deep midwinter I\'d get away with it???
I\'ve taken small amounts of frozen bait out myself with that method. And been surprised by how well it holds. But then I\'ve had as much Ice as I have bait. Less practical for larger amount maybe?
To be honest the convenience factor comes into play too! It\'d be nice just to push a few keys and have some bloke turn up to decant the goodies into the freezer all ready for when it takes my notion to go fishing....
Surely the delivery bloke won\'t deliver before 6.45am or probably after 6.00pm ? Couldn\'t you take your coolbox (or whatever) into work and buy your bait at lunchtime before the fishmonger closes ?
Aye probably ...it\'s jis gonny hiv tae be a freezin cauld day....
If the frozen bait bloke arrives ootside the time when the wean\'s bein\' conveyed to an from school all is well. she who must be placated can take custody of said precious cargo .....and the firecracker will have the sense to out it in the bloody freezer! (I hope)
